Assuming Essex finish off Surrey, where does that leave the table going into the decider? Presumably they will be ahead of Somerset, so Somerset would need to win to overhaul them?

On another note, given what Abbott and Harmer have done this season, what happens to Kolpak players in the event of a no deal Brexit?

Yes you're correct re Essex and Somerset, Essex would lead and Somerset have to win their televised final game next week against their rivals

The vast majority of Kolpak players (not being EU nationals) are entirely unaffected, what happens to EU citizens hardly has an impact on South Africans but any French, German or Italian cricketers may be affected.

Tbf there are a few Dutch cricketers and they could indeed be affected although it seems unlikely.

"The Kolpak ruling is a European Court of Justice ruling handed down on 8 May 2003 in favour of Maroš Kolpak, a Slovak handball player. It declared that citizens of countries which have signed European Union Association Agreements have the same right to freedom of work and movement within the EU as EU citizens. "

Aren't many of the Safa players here because of Dutch grandparents or something, hence why they qualify as Kolpak players? Either way, as it's a judgment from the ECJ, would it still be valid in the UK after we leave? After all, EU citizens won't have the right to live and work here after Brexit either, so why would Kolpak players?

Whisper it, but to me Lancashire have a really good chance of winning the CC next season. The bowling attack is fantastic and would probably be decent at test level in these conditions. Bailey, Gleeson and Mahmoud are all close to being international class and are backed up by Anderson and Onions. Parkinson is coming along too. There are some useful back up bowlers with Bohannon, Livingston and Maxwell.

We then have a very strong batting line up too, which was always an achilles heel. Livingston and Bohannon have really helped the middle order and Vilas is an outstanding player at County level. Lots of young players getting better too.

They also play in the rain capital of England, unless it's a decent Summer everywhere, even Manchester, they usually have little chance of actually winning it, four day cricket rather than the old three day championship obviously helps but wet summers are usually extremely wet in Manchester.

Perhaps its no coincidence the only time Lancs actually won the title since 1950 (when they were joint winners was 2011 when Old Trafford was closed for redevelopment and they played the majority of home games at outgrounds, Aigburth being heavily used. ( I think they played at Blackpool and Lytham too) - anyway they didnt get the Manchester weather

Yes sorry, you're right on the first part although South Africans all qualify because South Africa is part of a deal called the Cotonou Agreement with the EU. Zimbabwe and several Caribbean nations are also signatories, so their players are eligible for Kolpak deals too, a few South Africans are not descended from Dutch grandparents, especially around Cape Town which was a British stronghold and of course not all are of European ancestory anyway (the vast majority).

I think all the signs are it'll be fine regardless

Gloucestershire still in the hunt for promotion, how cool/ surprising is that, win four games since the Cheltenham festival, which is normally a catalyst for our county. Probably do an Everton next week and blow up, but it's so nice to see one of my teams at least in with a shout.
