Excellent news : Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson called up for the tour of New Zealand, no place for Bairstow.

Lancashire playing their final match against Leicestershire, currently Leicestershire 134-7, Gleeson 5-39.
Gleeson has been an excellent addition to the Lancs set up.

Fantastic news for the Lancs lads.

Played well and deserve it. Mahmood can join Archer as the future with a good showing. He's got something about him, like a level or two below Jof.

Parkinson deserves to tour as a back-up spinner; be a great experience for him and should get a 20/20 game. Same applies to Saqib, but he's fortunate to be in the Test squad. He definitely has promise but, having seen a lot of him this year, he's inconsistent, mixing some excellent spells, usually when he pitches the ball up, and some shockers, usually when he bowls too short - this against 2nd Division batsmen, not Kane Williamson etc. Still, I wish them both well.

Full T20I squad: Eoin Morgan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Pat Brown, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Lewis Gregory, Chris Jordan, Saqib Mahmood, Dawid Malan, Matt Parkinson, Adil Rashid, James Vince.

Headline omissions from the test squad; Bairstow, Foakes, Wood, Stone, Rashid, Moeen and Anderson.

T20 squad; Hales, Roy, Buttler, Stokes, Archer, Willey and Moeen.

Happy with the test squad as it was always thought the New Zealand tour the right place to give some a rest and a chance for promising young players. Bairstow looked to be suffering from a long summer and hadn't shown much at test level for a time, he is dropped but needed a break anyway. His keeping though did impress in the last test.

The T20 squad again looks a chance to look at some others who could contribute in the build up to the world cup in two years time.

Tom Banton has made a ton of runs in the blast and deserves a chance as does Mahmood and Parkinson who impressed for Lancs in topping the North group before gaining an away draw for the knockout phase.

It's obviously very much experimental with a few big stars given a break after their exertions in the summer and Stokes Buttler and Archer only doing the tests. Rashid is probably doubtful to make it with his chronic shoulder injury although still named.

Mark Wood and Olly Stone, together with Jimmy Anderson were not considered as injured and possibly the South Africa tour the target. (Rashid too although named in the T20 squad)
