Creative Midfielder Wanted

You used to change your mind every week about Carsley.

No I never, if he had a good game I would say so but more often than not I found he was a non event.

But not getting into a discussion about Carsley.

Sue me for not wanting someone better for my club.

Yes, if you watch his game closely. His positioning is excellent and he's certainly not scared to put his foot in. He's not just a creative midfielder, he's much more than that. Arteta's a very disciplined player.

If you can keep the ball and retain possession then you’ll do far less defending. Keep the ball away from the opposition and they won’t be able to hurt you.

Our football improved massively when Carsley left to be honest, he never offered an outlet to the back four and he was a specialist player, strictly defensive.

He's no shrinking violet and he doesnt let the game pass him by when he doesn't have the ball, but he cant offer what Carsley offered operating in front of the defence. That's a specialist job. For Carsley's effort to be dismissed on this thread as 'rubbish' is ludicrous.

I don't think he was 'rubbish' and I agree with you there, I have no doubts that we needed to get away from a player of his style though. He was a very limited central midfielder, almost like a 3rd centre back at times.

We went from back to front alot because Carsley (the deepest midfielder at the time) wouldn't look for the ball or give the defence an option.

Neville can do what Carsley did, he did last season and also looked for the ball a hell of alot more. Our football has come on a few notches since he left, it's still not perfect but it's alot better.

We already have Arteta, hes the heartbeat, he can do anything we want.

Moutinho, Defour, Van Der Vaart, Sneijder would be the player you need. But we missed the boat with all of these.

Yeah but Arteta is injured and I doubt he will play him centrally that often, not when he has to accomodate Neville, Fellaini and Cahill.

I think Moyes sometimes is a little 1 dimensional.

That's the main problem for me - it's not the way forward.

It should be Neville or Rodwell in the defensive midfield role, Arteta or another creative midfielder alongside them and Cahill or Fellaini behind the main striker.

So if Moyes plays him CM, who will he play wide? and what will he do with Neville?

I don't think Moyes is dynamic enough to change things around.

This.

Neville can play RB if we dont get 1 in.

Yep you right mate. That's exactly what we need. Not sure Arteta is actually good enough though. He was good on the wing, but I think CM is a big big task and you need a big player to do it. Not sure he has the balls to do it and push us forward. Moyes clearly doesn't see it as an issue though as he is happy to play kick and rush football.

I know you don't TxB.

Leaving Arteta's presence in CM one side (and Rodwell's progression)the reason we partially improved last season on that lamentable tactic was Yobo's absence.

But I reckon Yobo only cracks it forward because nobody else wants the ball to their feet.

And to be fair he wasn't the only one with that tactic yesterday.

Worrying to me is Moyes' comments on the website:

"I will need to do better and coach them better and train them better."

Do you think you should be commenting like that? To me it sounds very very amateurish.

If Yobo had Xavi and Inesta in front of him he'd belt it long.

Covering the players' embarrassment. Although he is limited as a manager.
