Creative Midfielder Wanted

Yeah I thought he was.

I thought he had no passing ability.
He pointed a lot
Chased shadows a lot

And his last season he was a liability.

But he scored against the [Poor language removed] so he's beyond criticism.

Make no mistake Lee Carsley may well have been god in the eyes of some, but not in mine. .

I bet his team mates thought differently.

We never improved as a side with him in the team, and we certainly have not missed him since he went.

For example his last season we came 5th and Semi's of Carling Cup. Since we lost him we came 5th and Final of FA Cup.

He did a fine job. He had to with that ******* lunatic Gravesen to cover for. To build some before and after scenario of Everton's footballing pedigree around Carsley is stretching it a bit. Imo, the team was limited because we hoofed from CB department. That was partially addressed after Carsley left. I'm not saying he was great, just that he never let us down and was far from woeful.

We need more positions filled than just midfield to be fair m8 .

Moyes is fastly becoming hypocritical in his transfer policies and assessment of our youth system .

We have a situation where it seems Moyes valuation of players differs immensely with the fans .

The same players are being played week in week out , and are never dropped .

This is possibly because Moyes feels we don't have adequate replacements .

If this is the case , then it's high time Moyes started to look deeper at our substitute options , and make sure that if we are to have a bench of substitutes , then they will get used .

Osman stands out like a sore thumb in our midfield , yet Moyes insists on using him in the same position time and time again . He is regularly substituted , yet still gets a starting place in the team . We have lots of options for the right wing , but they are rarely used .

Hibbert gets constant abuse from the fans , but we really don't have too many options for cover at right back , so this stands out as a position we need to strengthen .

Central defense is another position we need to enforce .
Rodwell and Neville aren't up to the job , so we need to bring in another few bodies .

We also need cover for left back . If Lescott leaves , or is injured , we have no cover .

Defensive midfield is Neville . I don't think he is good enough . Others think he is . We still need another DM in my opinion . Why is Neville never dropped ? Because we don't have cover ?

Pienaar can play on the right . Why not try Osman on the left ? If it works , we don't need to buy another midfielder / winger . We have 2 midfielders in Cahill and Fellaini where Moyes is unsure which role suits each best . A decision needs to be made here , and someone needs to be on the bench , and a rotation system started with our midfielders untill we find the best solution .

Our striker options are thin on the ground with injuries and players who have suffered injuries .
Jo has potential , but I don't see him being able to play loan striker .
Saha is class , but injury prone . Yakubu is returning from injury , and Vaughan will never be given a run out , nor will Anuchebe so why keep them in the squad to rot ?
We have an inconsistent goalkeeper too , who never gets dropped .

Any thoughts on what our best 11 is , and where they would play ?

I would play this :

.......................Howard / ????
Hibbert/??? .......Yobo/Jags ........Lescott/??? .....Baines/????
Pienaar/???? ......Arteta/???? ......Fellaini......Osman/????
.............Saha .........Cahill/Yakubu

Question marks represent possible transfer needs .

Neville is captain, he will not be dropped because of that fact, so will be shoe horned in. I reckon he is the 1st name on the sheet.

We need RB, CM, RW.

That's all we need. We have cover in the defence, so I would not expect Moyes to make a signing in defence unless he was losing Lescott. Because Jags is back in November so don't see the point in wasting money on someone who is going to be playing from the bench.

Is Steven Taylor a Centre Back/Right Back?

Ok, but whilst people think we have not replaced him is the same extreme as me saying he is woeful. So I will adjust my rating of him to average.

But we have improved as an 11 because of last seasons performances.

I do though wonder what people would think about him if he hadn't scored against Liverpool. It certainly seemed to save AJ from the critics.

Anyway.

Can we move on from Carsley. He has gone, he is no longer relevant in this squad.

Yes, yes it so is.
Gets boring with the same pish gets brought out every summer doesn't it? x

I will raise my hand again and say I never brought Carsley into the mix.

But I will say this. In my opinion, we have never replaced Gary Stevens.

So do you think Neville justifies his place in the first 11 ?
Where was his captaincy yesterday when our defense evaporated time after time ? Where was his own performance that suggests he can practise what he preaches ?
I like Neville , but his leadership alone can't justify his place surely .

The problem we have is we don't have any other natural leaders in the team who are fit at the moment , unless possibly Pienaar or Cahill , or even Lescott .

Cleaning Up

Felt that creative midfielder is more important than any other player we have gone for or got this summer or last for that matter. That is all.

Close this thread.

Just feel some members are trying to push me into the trap, and I am taking the higher ground.

Nah , don't feel like that m8 .
A creative midfielder is everyones dream , but it's not the only position we would wish for in a perfect world . Our team needs a good spring clean , but we don't have the funds to do it in order to hit the next level . (y)

Neville was one of our best players last season and worthy of a place in the team.
Yesterday was diabolical but the lads will get it right as will moysie.
The players must get pissed off after their efforts last year then us having no money to add to the work they have done.
The spirit was lacking yesterday but it will be back i trust davey

Well I do. I'm not going to fall into the trap. Too many people expect me to be like I was, in fact want me to.

I just refuse to be negative against the club before something has happened, but everything that I have said today is based on what happened yesterday, as it's nigh on impossible to defend that.

I am still positive though.

I thought Nevilles biggest attribute last year was his captaincy .
It's times like this that the team needs his leadership the most , but he really needs to start upping his performances .

For me , our best players last year were Jags , Fellaini , Baines , Pienaar , Cahill and Lescott , with Saha doing well towards the end .

Add Arteta and Yakubu and they are our best players .

If we look outside of those players , we have Hibbert , Yobo , Neville , Osman and Howard from a fit starting 11 , with Gosling , Jo , and Rodwell on the fringe .

Yobo , Howard and Neville are classed in my eyes as touch and go , whilst Hibbert and Osman are constantly under review . Gosling and Rodwell are possibly next seasons successes , and Jo belongs to City .

So we have :

Jags
Fellaini
Baines
Pienaar
Cahill
Lescott
Arteta
Yakubu
Saha

For me , this is where we should be drawing the line and trying to build upon .
