March 9th, Spain passed the 1000 cases mark
March 14, UK passed the 1000 cases mark (5 days difference)

On March 9th, Spain had 30 deaths
On March 14, UK had 21 deaths

5 days ago in Spain (which should be today in UK)
50000 cases with 3647 deaths
UK today has 22000 cases and 1400 deaths

Unless your government is not telling the truth about the deaths, it does look like the death-rate in UK is/should be lower than what was being projected

Ive read some suspicions around the UKs reporting of figures similar to what you read on here about China. I’m not making an accusation good or bad as I really don’t know, but I’ve seen the following suspicions.

UK:

Only reporting R.I.Ps in hospital.

Not including numbers without consent of the family following an R.I.P.

Priority given to reporting death of an underlying health condition, I.e. cardiac, respiratory disease even though people tested positive for covid.

Deaths in the community, nursing homes and covelasence home not added to stats.

As NHS haven’t until recently been tested, there could be a significant number of active cases amount health care professionals - health care professionals can make up a quarter or more of active cases as has been seen in other countries.

*Hard to know the truth of it all, it’s just what I’ve read but I’m sure everyone on the ground is doing their best. You can read anything you want from the wildly optimistic to the most pessimistic.

Already today there are articles of flattening the curve in the UK Vs stories of beginning triaging ICU beds.

I suppose the only way of validating will be retrospectively against average mortality rates Vs normal during the covid period Vs official covid figures.

Just to stick up for those I can. I had a friend that's only just got back from the Philippines a couple of days ago after trying for nearly 2 weeks just to misinformation from their airlines.

I appreciate that but I myself was stuck in the same region of the world but flew back almost 4 weeks ago now because I could sense the way it was going and felt that it was too big a risk to delay a return any longer.

"If in doubt, clear out"

I know it shouldn't, be it has irked me that the government has had to step in to help people who were too stupid and ignorant to use basic common sense and get back to the country when it was obvious that things were going tits up all over the world. Especially those who were stuck on cruises struggling to get back - like, how the beep did they not hear of the numerous cruise ships that have struggled in the past couple of months.

TBF a lot of travel firms weren't giving people money back if they cancelled; yes they shouldn't have gone but we are talking thousands of pounds in some cases.

Of these, the "family consent" BS and the "underlying condition" ones are the main problems - community deaths will never be as quickly reported as hospital deaths (indeed the chances are that even if this epidemic stopped tonight, bodies of single people / recluses who died of this will still be being found for months afterwards). Its also daft (edit) for them to continually harp on about confirmed cases when we know they aren't testing that many people.

If they are massaging the stats downwards though, they are idiots. This isn't China and the truth will come out very quickly.

I've been told that people in Bulgaria can only leave their houses from tomorrow if they are wearing a mask. Problem is there are no masks available for anyone.

Most people who go on cruises - we're talking the boomers with money to burn - could have taken the 'hit'. I'd have had sympathy for them if they cancelled but didn't get their money back but I have absolutely none for them going against basic common sense and getting stranded.

True, though the firms have a lot of responsibility for not telling people these trips were off (especially cruises).
