If what happened there mirrored what happened in countries where this virus has spread for two months without lockdown conditions or testing programmes, there will have been multiple other hotspots.

If it’s proved they’ve lied about the numbers and messed with the WHO, serious action (sanctions and boycotts) must follow.

There really isn’t an other option but follow a similar pattern because historically (with other major infections) isolation is a standard approach.

With regards to the figures coming out of China, what we are hearing and what our governments will know (and are using) are worlds apart.

The spooks and GCHQ aren’t going to openly declare ‘we know the numbers are wrong’ because that would be saying ‘Look, this is our capability’.

If all of a sudden they have thousands of ventilators and tons of PPE gear for sale, you’ll know something really fishy is going on !

It's already happening mate. There was a news article last night from factories in China, one ventilator manufacturer and one producing PPE suits. Basically saying that now China has beaten the virus (?????) these products are available for export and the factories have gone into overdrive.

It was practically making the Chinese out to be the saviours

You would certainly hope that if that was the case, they’d be selling them at no more than cost.

They bought up the stocks in mid-February throughout Europe. Now they are selling them on. It was a cynical attempt to corner the market.

We had an entirely different option available - the one that Singapore and S Korea took of aggressive tresting/contract tracing but we in the West largely squandered that chance so the only other option is lockdown/quarantine that has a long history in pandemics.

Those countries knew what to expect having suffered numerous outbreaks over the last 20 years.

The West were barely affected by those outbreaks and gambled on the same thing happening again. We lost. Now we're all clamouring for the same limited supply of stuff to fight this thing

Maybe the Chinese have a better immune system compared to other countries, because of diet over generations.
