In my experience, yep. The thing about an ICU isnt the severity of a condition, more the intensity of the care. In an ICU, a nurse is with a patient 24/7. Literally by their bed/in their unit. Its pretty mundane. Meds, obvs, update records, (all digital).

So a CV patient, once stabilised, and on a vent/rigged up to heart and sats reading kit, doesnt need intensive care. If they crash, the machine goes off and a crash team legs it. If they dont, they can be weened off the vent once the lungs have improved/CV has gone.
So a 50% death rate from ICUs, though sad, should not be entirely unexpected

Anyone else impressed with this Jenny Harries

She knows how to handle some of the moronic questions being thrown at her
Was just going to post this. You can tell she is not a politician, hiding behind words. Very informative and in a way people can understand it
Also like the way she checked one of the reporters who tried to twist her amswer.

Yea, it's nice to see someone not talk as though everything's binary, and we have to accept that there are no absolutes, but, as time goes on, things will start to become clearer.

One of the very damning things is that the USA and S Korea had their first case a day apart.....and took completely divergent actions.
Agreed. My comment was meant to say look at the 1st Case column not first column. Everyone saying we are two weeks behind Italy! But how if the first recorded case was just one day apart? Maybe we are dealing with situation better.

I wouldnt be happy answering that, cos I havnt a clue. What I am saying is that only the most serious need to be in one. A vent and meds/lines and a monitor are all used in non ICU wards as well.

The critical point in a patients entry into any type of critical care is the ID of WHY they are in the state they are. The rarer that is, the harder it is get the treatment started. As awful as this is, the medics across the world at least know what they are dealing with.

If a patient comes in, is hooked up, but then displays unusual reactions to the other several hundred patients, ICU here we go.

The best analogy I can come up with is asking a garage to service 100 Ford Escorts, with an occasional and unexpected Ford Model T coming in. Takes longer, and needs that little bit more care.

Way off beam, but if we are locked down, even ish, for 3 or even 6 months, can you get married?

I dont mean that we have a large one planned or anything, cos we havnt, but from a purely practical point of view, it kinda makes sense. Y'know.
