s the Guardian a decent source? I'm not familiar with it, but it says that 70% of those admitted to ICU are overweight.

Recent figures suggests that a large proportion of the populace of the UK and US are overweight. However I don't think anyone is suggesting that to be an underlying condition. Fat, thin, black, white, Jew, Christian, young, old etc. It doesn't choose. You're just as likely to get it as I am.

It's not a case of one is at the expense of the other, the two aren't linked. Ramming home the message to as wide an audience as possible time and again and by every means possible will save lives too. There needs to be strict adherence to the rules and it's vital everyone gets the message.

The two are completely separate and spending money sending letters is a drop in the ocean compared to the billions being spent in emergency measures atm.

The health workers need protection now and should absolutely be prioritised but linking this with that is ludicrous and ridiculous.

Without politicising this and placing blame on anyone, drop in the ocean or not our care services have been stretched and when we come out of this presumably are going to be worse off again. Five million odd would be an amount someone would like as a budget boost right about now!

Fair point. Really can't see 21m people going missing though. I really don't believe their numbers, it'll be way higher than nearly 4k (was it?) but don't buy these conspiracies.

Been in a bit of pain last couple of days, I've got pleurisy on my chest but hopefully a few days of painkillers and it will sort itself.

I drank a couple of bottles of red last night so I can distract my chest pain with a thumping hangover, an unqualified success so far ha.

It's not saying that overweight people are more likely to get the dose, it's saying that they are more likely to end up getting it severely and end up in intensive care, 35% of UK are overweight while 70% of those in intensive care from Covid 19 are overweight.

Generalist, no specialism in particular and, unfortunately, my company is one of many businesses falling victim to all this, all of my colleagues and I have been furloughed, with redundancy looking likely in the immediate future as who knows when the economy and jobs market will pick back up.

It's been rammed home hourly, daily and weekly. A £6 million letter will do nothing to stop people going out - it's being encouraged by the government to go out for exercise.

If it saves more lives it's an expense worth spending now imo, it has no effect on other issues, its a leaflet drop for a time of national emergency and has no effect on other priorities in this emergency.

Other issues will still be there afterwards but this emergency needs to be dealt with now.

I'm going to speculate here. We're seeing low numbers because the virus is in it's relative infancy in the UK and/or there is a chronic lack of testing.

The figure you quoted of 163. If we take that at face value. My guess is tomorrow or the next day, you may be looking at over 300. The day after 600 and so forth.

I'll repost this link and you really need to watch it. This is how the virus spreads exponentially if the virus isn't addressed, which it wasn't in the US. There is no reason why the UK wouldn't follow the same pattern.

I have no doubts it is going to really take off now but we have already had around half the deaths France has yet they have 25 times more in serious condition. You would have thought there would me a closer correlation between those 2 stats

The temp hospitals have definately closed in wuhan aswell, no way secret hospitals isn't getting out. Like you i think theres a good chance of it before quite a bit more than 4k but there is some real tin foil hat shouts going on aswell

I'm not buying this, but doing the math 1.4 billion (china's population) - less 21 million = 1.5% of the populous -
