Put simply, in a direct comparison, the total death rate in Italy 16 days ago correlates with our total death rate now.

However, we've jump 260 in one day, while Italy at the same stage were jumping 200 approx. in one day, so we're ahead of Italy on that metric. But overall we're 15/16 days behind Italy.

But Italy had that issue with the virus catching hold in a really vulnerable region didnt they?

That said, it really doesnt matter I guess. Its here, the Government/Scientists did what they did, so we can do little but ride it out for now.

Can't put the telly on without ITV pushing some sort of 'How scared should we be of the Coronavirus' junk

People know what they need to do - You saturating the airwaves with this is making people anxious

This really. I think I’d rather see a complete media lockdown, it would cheer us all up ......

you can’t separate discussion of what the government is or should be doing out of a discussion of this crisis Joey
That's not the same as some posters trying to score polictical points etc as I stated there is a political thread for this subject put it in there ok if its a general comment, but polictical point scoring on this thread is not on imo - hence a thread has been put on by @COYBL25 for anything really politically critical -
Simply just use that - if its just a mild comment no problem, but if it gets to political use the thread that's there for anyone to vent their anger .... Staying alive is more important imo as it's a killer pandemic we are discussing on this thread .....

Not all countries are testing to the same extent though so it's at best a rough guide when we compare with italy, spain etc. Countries also give their figures based on different parameters.

All that matters is that people stay at home and behave sensibly.

So we're 16 days away from having 900 deaths a day?

Yes. Well, actually, if todays' figures are maintained and carry on that "slope", we're about 13/14 days away, because at the same stage Italy were having 200 deaths a day and we've just had 260.

We were tracking somewhat comfortably behind Italy until yesterday and today.

Agreed but generally it's been a consistent tracker in that we were 14 days behind Italy almost exactly for the best part of two weeks.

Oh, and as I said the other day, the horrible mutants who went out on the last on that Friday when the lockdown was announced all need a solid punch in the face.

The lockdown was not announced until the Monday. The government said pubs could stay open until normal closing time on the Friday......

Have any European countries actually peaked yet?

Italy and Spain have both peaked. The absolute number of new daily cases may seem large but that is because the existing number is also large. In terms of geometric growth they are both seem to be past the peak and the percentage growth per day is slowing.

Sorry mate but with respect to you, I disagree.
