I think people should stop being so desperate to get themselves tested for the virus.. Even if it's confirmed that you have it, it won't change anything.

Testing is data. Data allows you to instigate measures that could help to mitigate the danger. It's like fog of war. Medical professionals need to be tested first and so forth. Further testing will give us an indication of where the virus is and how we can combat it's spread. It might be very late in the game for that but it's still essential.

There are enough people already being treated in hospitals for a decent enough sample. The NHS is already using data from 111 calls and patients to predict where more beds and ventilators need to go. They're getting help from the likes of Amazon and Microsoft with this, too... We don't need the average joe demanding to be tested - which will be of no use to himself and will only further use up valuable resources at this point.

I didn't intend to. I was trying to make head nor tail of it.
Maybe I didn't explain it correctly I'll try again, if I had heart disease, caught the flu and then had a heart attack and died, my cause of death would be given as a heart attack. Now if you had heart disease, caught the corona virus and had a heart attack and died your cause of death would be given as corona virus.
Currently there is 19 deaths in Ireland from corona virus, all of whom had underlying conditions, most or all of whom would likely have died if they caught flu, but if it was the case that these 19 had the flu when they died they wouldn't all have flu as cause of death the underlying condition would be the cause.

In all seriousness ...

His son's self isolating ( or was a few days ago ) and his son works for McDonnell. I get that the leader of the opposition can't really quarantine himself, but he's no spring chicken, so hopefully he'll pretty much take the official advice once a new leader's in place and drastically cut his social contacts.

If he was your 70 year old father and not in politics, what would you be saying to him, just carry on with your job dad, it'll be fine ?
If he was my Father I would have pleaded with him to resign years ago rather than go through the slanderous torrent of unwarranted abuse he did on a daily basis.

But that is bye the bye, he has a position of responsibility he takes very seriously, he won't be the only 65+ to be doing so in testing times, including the NHS staff coming out of retirement. I would have sympathy with them and anyone else who catches this nasty virus in the current climate

What I find odd is how many famous people are getting the virus and are fine with it. Whether it's Idris Elba, Tom hanks, probably now Boris Johnson.

I did have a feeling Johnson would catch it at some point, just a matter of time before it was announced.

But yeah, many cases in hospital all over the world with the virus yet not a single famous person has ended up there. Just strikes me as a little odd.

I'm not saying they don't have it neither. Given the perspective media wise that it is almost like a plague of sorts, it's odd that they don't have a famous person as poster child for how bad this is, only us normal people

That's not odd. Recovery rates are mercifully high for those in good health, and below 70-75.

Most people will just have mild symptoms (ie not life threatening).

Utter lunancy the Westminster has still carried on. It's been rife there for weeks.

Why they don't lockdown London fully is beyond me

Only a matter of time, I've gone high temp overnight.
