Second booster campaign started over here today for 60-65's for the Autumn/Winter. Be going down every five years for the whole population once each cohort is done, depending on meeting the below criteria:

  • a second mRNA booster vaccine for those aged 50-64 years
  • a second mRNA booster vaccine for those aged 12-49 years who have an underlying medical condition or are residents of long-term care facilities
  • a second mRNA booster vaccine for pregnant women at 16 weeks or later who have not already received a booster vaccine in their current pregnancy
  • a second mRNA booster vaccine for healthcare workers
  • a third mRNA booster vaccine for those aged 65 years and older, and those aged 12-64 years who are immunocompromised

And thousands more alive because of lockdowns, I'd rather be alive over weight chain smoking to manage my poor mental health wondering how I came through a Thatcharite education system than dead. Call it pragmatist in me.

And how about this for the conclusion on the analysis lockdowns had the same poor outcomes for those in poverty as COVID. Well [Poor language removed] my uncle, tell me something we don't know.
Also referenced in the analysis.

The point is not lockdown vs free for all. It's about identifying the areas impacted most by lockdown and thinking sensibly about how to mitigate the effects of those as a consequence of lockdown.

Perhaps the pragmatist can acknowledge that lockdowns aren't good, they need to be short and sharp and that public health should balance the need to provide quality of life with the preservation of life and learning more about the oblique impacts that one intervention has, allows you to prepare better for them in the future.

decrease the pollution

The pandemic also led to increased medical waste. Production and use of medical equipment such as personal protective equipment contributed to plastic waste. This required a larger than normal number of masks, gloves, needles, syringes, and medications. During 2020, approximately 65 billion gloves and 129 billion face masks were used every month and disposed of. Enforced public use of PPE has posed challenges to conventional waste management. Greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the treatment process of this plastic waste ranged from 14 to 33.5 tons of CO2 per ton of mask, the largest share being from production and transport.

look after our neighbours

The effects of inflation in consumer food prices stemming from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures put in place to contain it, are clear and significant. Global consumer food prices were higher by the end of 2020 than they were during any month in the previous six years. This translated directly into an increased average cost of a healthy diet in 2020 for all regions and almost all subregions in the world.

The affordability of a healthy diet measures the average cost of the diet relative to income; therefore, changes over time can be the result of changes in the cost of the diet, people’s income, or both. In 2020, the measures put in place to contain COVID-19 sent the world and most countries into economic recession, with per capita incomes contracting in more countries than at any time in the recent past.

From UN's recently published report on the state of food security & nutrition in the world

Let's get on with it just like now. But it's too late, recession will be nasty. So trying to show that govts around the world were in the wrong re lockdowns and now paying the price.
You see for me its not too late.

My parents are alive, my in laws are alive, im alive.

Sure the after stings, but I would rather this world than a world we COULD have had.

Nothing wrong with lockdowns if they're done effectively. Repeated lockdowns because you've done nothing to limit the virus with the time that lockdown has given you is the problem.

I am glad they are. You too.

I just don't think this would have left black death kind of scar on the world if not intervened with lockdowns.
