Normally those that have don't continue to post on GoT.

Evidently nothing we can do for such people trapped in their own ethical idiocy. One day an even worse virus will come around, and you can only imagine how many people are going to die because they won't have a quick jab in the arm.

Pandemics aren't new. There will be another, viral or bacterial (i prefer viral), and it could be much worse. Our abuse of the planet has led to zoonotic pathogens. And our abuse of antibiotics has led to highly resistant bacteria...

I guess Darwin does always win one way or the other.

Mask mandates to end I Ireland.. I was OK with masks but won't wear one if it's not mandated, Tomorrow is the last day of School before midterm and hopefully the last day of mask wearing in work. A recent trip to the UK has reminded me what life was like going about your business without the mask on so I'm looking forward to being out and about without the mask.

JCVI statement on vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years old

Advice

JCVI advises a non-urgent offer of two 10 mcg doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (Comirnaty®) to children aged 5 to 11 years of age who are not in a clinical risk group. The 2 doses should be offered with an interval of at least 12 weeks between doses.

The intention of this offer is to increase the immunity of vaccinated individuals against severe COVID-19 in advance of a potential future wave of COVID-19".

The advice seems to be, that they want 5-11 year olds vaccinated to protect them against a future wave of the virus. So it's to be given now but for the future wave of the virus. But if kids have it now, and it's said the vaccine wanes, then by the time a future wave comes then they wont be protected, so will need vaccinating again. This doesn't make sense unless they are claiming that vaccine induced immunity lasts a very long time in which case what was the point of the 2nd jab and/or the booster?

Well we don’t know when a future wave could come. And there is a 3 month gap between the doses. To be clear, they are also not heavily pushing people to do this, they have opened it as an option. Just because they have cleared it now doesn’t mean they think every child should be rushed out straight away to get it.

It’s much better that they allow it now than waiting until there might come a time when children really need it. I really don’t see the issue with this at all.

Some of the sceptics (I’m not saying you are one by the way) will talk about choice in not taking the vaccine. There is now a choice for parents should they wish to vaccinate their children with no push that they should do it. If it’s all about choice then surely this is a good thing?

For example lots of children are looked after by their grandparents. Children who are in schools which we all know are germ factories. The vaccine does lower transmission and the benefits seem to outweigh the risks.

EDIT: Messed up the last sentence but have corrected now

The political approach will be do your own risk assessment and live with the consequences. Ill be wearing masks for quite a while yet myself for general day to day, they bother me 0%, especially the face coverings for when your just out and about in normal society, in fact prefer them this weather as they keep your face warm.

The FFP3 we have to wear in work at the moment are seriously uncomfortable the are bet into the back of your skull and can be quite painful when wearing for 8 hours straight, very difficult to breath in or speak in and your recycling anything but fresh air - which can leave you knackered, permanent strap marks down the side of face. Face masks out in public - a dodle.

I have a large head and the straps of the masks dig into the back of my ears, it's at the point now that I have a pain all the time even after a few days not wearing it.. so I'll be ditching it once its not mandated.

Sorry to hear! Might be a bit late in the day pal, but there are clasps you can get to take the loops/straps away from your ears the loops stretch a fair bit.

Sorting out the damage that the FFP3 masks have done to the faces of hospital staff, has become one of my missus`s main tasks in work ( tissue viability nurse ).

Everyone on her floor, has jibbed them for anything other than face to face to face with patients.

Fair play to her mate, very skilled and invaluable job a TVN.

Id be interested in what approaches or recommendations she comes up with mate, face, tops of ears and back of my head are battered with the FFP3's - we use the duck billed ones.

I went to a family party last weekend and I spoke to about 4 or 5 family members (all below 30 and it was a wider discussion about plans for the summer not just COVID but vaccines came up) who have had zero doses but are now getting dosed up in order to go on holiday in the summer. It's extremely difficult to go anywhere unvaccinated so that will force some people to get jabbed eventually.
