It's scaremongering if you don't put it in context, 60,000 in a month, you haven't provided any other information.. over a quarter of a million people die in the US every month, I'd be willing to bet a substantial sum that the vast majority of the 60,000 would have died in January regardless of pandemic.
For context it was the second leading cause of death in the US in January, significanly higher than cancer

Wishing her a swift recovery and that you avoid contracting it.
Thanks.. she's been sneezing and a runny nose is all so far, hopefully that will be the worst of it. Me and the 2 lads are all negative at the moment... I've been told that I can go to work if I've been boosted and have a negative test and have no symptoms, the department of education were given separate rules as too many staff were restricting movments as contacts even though they had negative tests..

God Mid to late 2020 was so terrible that I don't even remember much, I don't even remember what I posted here, I was complaining a lot, that's all, it ruined my life (probs for good) I still feel isolated even if everywhere is open now.

Got nailed there last week, not bad going after just under two years of front facing healthcare.

One symptoms I wasn’t expecting and personally the worst was muscle and joint ache, stubborn virus to, day 8 and still testing positive.
My wife and daughter tested positive over the weekend. Daughter only had high fever one night and has been good since but it has really knocked my wife a fair bit. She has really bad back and muscle pain as well.

Glad your daughter was over it quickly and hope your wife‘s symptoms ease quickly although this might not be the most romantic Valentine’s Day for you both unfortunately.

Sorry to hear mate, if it’s any consolation or reassurance to your wife it just lasted the first three days for me and was manageable with most over the counter pain meds. I work out and and run a fair bit, so be used to a bit of pain in the muscles, but this was like a deep ache - only way to describe it, in the muscles, joints and particularly the lower back - just like your wife. Hope your daughter and wife are on the mend soon.

Is it also possible that the US have been labelling people dying of other things as COVID deaths too, as other countries have?

It would not be surprising if this number was revised later to something much lower. It is important to understand the true size of impact of COVID and this can not be done accurately when deaths are being categorised incorrectly.
But why would a doctor label a cause of death incorrectly?

Huh? It's just starting here in Western Australia
About to break the 1,000 cases a day mark tomorrow. Common feeling is that the figures are much higher.

Things quickly spiralling out of control for the Govt; High Court action from NZers still bring prevented from returning, hospitality and tourism sectors on their knees and a cracking protest in the parliament grounds and surrounding streets bringing gridlock to parts of the capital.

But why would a doctor label a cause of death incorrectly?

It is not incorrectly, it is the rules that the doctors have to follow. Where there was a positive test within 28 days, COVID is listed on the death certificate alongside any other causes that contributed to death.

This does not mean that COVID was the main cause of death, or even that it contributed to the death in many cases. It is a concern and means we may not have the true, full picture of it's effects.
