Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

There’s a lot of stuff online, written by cardiologists and pulmonologists, who are also runners, who’ve written about their own experiences and how they dealt with it - mainly in the States.

If you have a hunt around on the running forums, you’ll find stuff there that may help.
ta mate, she said the whole 'take it easy' spiel... I've not exactly gone in blood and thunder, just noticing this weird pain is all. Will look that up ta

I would go down this route mate, just say you’ve had it for a month and get booked in for an ECG. You can’t be too careful with the ticker.
yeah I don't want to add even further pressure like if they can avoid it. I thought the doc would have got me in tbh, given it was my heart, just for them to have a listen or whatever...

I've been getting random chest pain/tightness on my left side and my heart rate has been spiking a bit when exercising over the last week. Yesterday I was just in the changing rooms after a very steady swim and it spiked up to 170 on my garmin, I actually felt feint (for reference my resting varies from 50-53 on average and when I do a steady swim it's at about 90. It felt similar to after my 2nd jab back in September/October. Managed to get through to the docs and went through clearly how I felt and why it was abnormal.

Her answer: "Your heart rate does spike when exercising, if it persists for a month then go to A&E"

I know they're stretched so I'm not having a go and I was surprised I got through so quickly (I rang this morning and they called me back at 6). I just, dunno, don't feel like what she said was any help at all. I'm not thick, I know heart rate spikes while exercising.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this after COVID recently? Like I said, it's similar to how I felt for a month or so after my 2nd jab but I didn't have the chest pain then, more just the heart rate spikes while exercising as I lost a lot of fitness. I don't feel unfit, though, like I feel pretty well, it just randomly shoots up and I'm pretty sure it's not my garmin as it's doing the same on my heart rate monitor as well.

There's some research going with on long COVID which is looking at the possibility that some people are developing micro clots, which then limits the amount of o2 getting to your organs, including your heart. The standard tests to see if people have more normal clots won't pick these up, tis just a possibility though, but could be why you're getting this ?

I think, but aren't totally sure, that there's a trial going on with new, and repurposed drugs ( Aspirin I think ) ? Best not to self medicate with Aspirin though, it can cause stomach bleeds in some people.

The standard advice for anyone suffering a bit post infection is to take it easy and reintroduce things gradually, which must be very frustrating if you're normally active, but is good advice. Chances are, if it's COVID related, it'll sort itself out eventually, but getting it properly checked out makes sense too.

edit : All runners that post on running forums are nutcases, taking advice from them on health matters should come with a formal Health Warning !

Cheers mate.

So basically, I had COVID in July in between my first and second doses. Hit me like a ton of bricks afterwards. Took 4 weeks to get back to some fitness, then had my second jab and that set me back further for about 6-8 weeks.

Doctor told me in November time as I had a chest infection that I'd probably got/had long covid. Then I had covid again over Christmas (was fine, no real bad symptoms and was able to exercise throughout indoors), just then this last week has been a bit rough. But like I said I've been very careful with going back to the exercise just in case

It'll be the news that El Ghazi was signing mate, enough to tip anyone over the edge!

In all seriousness though, I know you look after yourself and do plenty of exercise and it may just be a case of a bit of long covid. I know a fair few who are relatively healthy, had mild Covid but still had a physical impact on them a good 5-6 weeks later.

BUT

As others have said, get it checked out mate as you don't want to be stressing out over it every time it occurs after exercise

yeah, it's that it's been doing it even when I'm not exercising this week. Like today just sat working I was having a chest pain (but it's like my upper chest).

I'll have to ring the hospital up if it carries on and just do what Mikeh suggested. I don't want to be adding extra burden, mind.

I'm more worried about getting my booster tbh, as in don't want to set myself back again in 3 weeks' time

Yeah mate have a good chat with someone about it and get some advice and a check up

Definitely get it checked out if you can. For two reasons. Firstly if there has been an issue better to catch it as quickly as possible. Secondly, anxiety is awful and has can push your heart rate up significantly. You said you had reactions to your vaccines so far and you are a healthy young person. Anything that seems off as a result will be worrying you for obvious reasons and contributing to this. I had this a good few years back (not covid related as it was way before that). I was in my early 20’s and started to feel a bit under the weather and then started getting the odd chest pain and when I’d be going to sleep I’d feel tingles in my arms. Feeling under the weather had long passed but I was still feeling a bit tight in the chest and the rest. Obviously being a young idiot I took a while to get checked out (not calling you a young idiot, especially given the circumstances but young men especially tend to behave like this). Eventually got a series of fairly standard tests and it wasn’t anything. And I am not a worrier. Never get sick at all really. When I got my results back from the doctor it was incredible the effect. It all just disappeared pretty much instantly. Once I knew there was nothing underlying it completely sorted me out.

So just get checked as soon as possible. Hope you get it sorted soon mate. Sure it will be fine
