That you can only guess at that shows what a complete failure the political media have been in this crisis. Why aren't we testing more is a question that I haven't heard once at these press conferences, even though its pretty bloody relevant.
I suspect the media are being told what they can and can't ask and report 'in the national interest' . People have been pretty irresponsible already and I do wonder if the threat of being accused of inciting public disorder and mass panic has been held against them.

Highly doubt the UK will be having road blocks out , unless those measures were already in place to happen.

I can see it getting to that depending on the reaction to this news sure, force people to stay at home.

I mean if there was more than one in the car.

They'd have to put on the spot fines in place after a certain time because otherwise it would be a nightmare to control. Even if it's only an option , the police have to enforce that to make sure people don't take liberties with this.

Why would it be classed as a liberty to go for a drive?!

Exactly, and a much worse impact on the economy.

I hate to go conspiracy nut but I really think there's something else afoot here.

Not as in that this illness isn't serious. It is. And it's scary and I do believe governments are now doing their best to save people.

But... the collective response. I think there's more to it than governments just not 'treating it seriously'.

It's crashing the western economy in one fell swoop with more impact than anything we've seen.

It is the perfect storm for modern-style politics (of the centre, left* and right) in the West. A crisis that requires healthcare capacity they've gotten rid of, testing and education programmes that requires public health workers that they've gotten rid of, the public to follow instructions from experts of the type that they spent decades making the public suspicious of because of "bias" against them, and which to work will require people to have a level of economic security that the modern "flexible" job-market and the explosion in the numbers of people renting without secure tenancy that they've gotten rid of.

* though really given that theres been very few left wing governments in the west over the past thirty years how much of this is down to them is questionable

Why are people calling this a lockdown ? It’s far from it. The option of allowing people to make the decision of leaving home to themselves is just prolonging the risk of spreading the virus.
The words were strong.. but not strong enough.
