No, C-SPAN is a news network but it also acts a bit like Reuters or AP. They have a lot of video teams out there. They put videos on their wires, this is a video of a statement to the press. In this video, which was a 2-min clip, there was no opportunity to ask questions. Now, C-SPAN then should - and I don't know if they did but if they're a news network I'm sure they will do - have had people assessing what was said. Under separate cover. But posting the clip itself is not misinformation.

To use another football example. When a manager lies about a possible new signing in a news conference. Let's say Benitez says today: "No, we aren't signing Longstaff. We will not make a bid for the player, he does not interest Everton." That clip, cut to 10 seconds, would then be used across lots of different sites and broadcast agencies (the company I work for being among them, that's how they work in the vid teams).

Then let's say on Monday, Everton sign Longstaff. The companies that spread that clip are not in any way liable for the spread of misinformation. They have cut a clip of Benitez's quotes. There would almost certainly not be any inclusion of the journalist asking the question, or a follow up question, it would just be Benitez's quotes, as that's how viral videos work, by and large unless there is an instance were the publication in question wants to show that a certain question was asked.

And back to the C-SPAN vid, it was simply a video of the person making a statement to the press. In that video, no questions were asked, as it was the initial statement. Other videos will, almost certainly, have shown journalists asking follow up questions if it was a press conference setting. It was simply a representation of what was said, a coverage of an event.
I believe you're on the wrong side of history on this. There are an awful lot of things going on globally to curb the spread of misinformation and if you're a publisher you can't expect to be able to shrug your shoulders and wash your hands of whatever goes out on your platform.

How long does this go on before we follow some of Europe in making vaccines mandatory? or at least properly introducing a proper vaccine 'pass'?

I'm not expecting the publisher to shrug their shoulders at all.

I'm coming from at it from this side: did the video accurately represent what was said? Yes, it did.

Now just because what was said may be bs, it doesn't mean that it has been inaccurately reported or represented. If C-SPAN had tweeted along with it: "this is true" or along those lines then obviously that is different. But they didn't, and if you stop news outlets accurately reporting events or statements that are made, then you start going into very dangerous ground, don't you...

That video, and the quote in the caption, accurately represented what that person said. You can say that person is stating misinformation and I have no issue with that. But you cannot stop the news network accurately covering the statement. Or, like I said, you go into dangerous territory. And that's all that happened with that video; no other statement or opinion on it was given, it was an accurate recording/reporting/representation of what that person said. Ironically, it's a video recording of such a statement that means that person can have no defence if he is charged with defamation or spreading misinformation, because the evidence is there, untampered and unfiltered, that he said it.

But they are choosing what it is they publish. They're not going to go down to Hyde Park Corner and broadcast verbatim the words of whatever crazy is down there today because they will exert some editorial judgement on what is right and proper to air. If their sole purpose is to regurgitate whatever they're told then what really is the point of them?

I mean they're a White House-centric news network covering a congresswoman and a house rep calling the January 6th incident a government conspiracy. It's a pretty big story!!!

That isn't their point, it's a video they put up of the press statement.

Not on topic but I remember he did this once at Goodison after a draw. They had a goal disallowed and he gave an interview along the lines of "what do you mean a draw? We scored two beautiful goals and won the game". Was very strange
He was clearly joking and that was obvious in the presentation. It is not the same as totally unchallenged deliberate political misinformation.

Looks like booster only passes for events is coming, with the inevitable removal of the testing option you'd presume. Was surprised we kept away from these for so long with pretty much every other country doing them.

How long will it last do we reckon? Til summer or til 4th jab when they need renewing?

Plays well in the marginals.
12 to 14 weeks out from Election ScoMo (lib / tory lite) takes poke at the Leftie dictator of Victoria.
Tennis Australia just want to make shed load of cash from TV & sponsors... so the serb vaxx denier was waved through while officials averted their gaze for a few mins

He didn't just have a Djokovic sign, he had one claiming Dan Andrews had turned Victoria into a communist state. It's admittedly a very tame sign. And I bet the guy with it felt he was being hilarious wearing a Vietnam t-shirt while doing it. But signs like this have been confiscated well before covid and Djokovic. Such a misleading tweet and video.

Take off Djokovic's name and add the names of the 3 million melburnians he locked down for 270 days and he's spot on.

Well that's my point, we'll find out on Monday
A compromise will be found...the details of which will remain private as a persons medical details Are private Innit.
...So Mr Djokovoc, you don't have actually to tell us if you are vaccinated, we'll assume as the role model that you are, that of course you will be, but we won't ask you and if you aren't you won't have to lie - good luck with the tennis
=Sorted.
