Maybe they just don't believe him, or possibly he has not provided any proof. It's all well and good saying I need X exemption. Aussie tennis could have just gone, yep, in you come champ, whereas border control are a bit more, like, eh up. What's this about Gouvnor. Show me the deets innnit. Prove it.
Well that's my point, we'll find out on Monday

Honestly, outside of Twitter, and social media, if you actually just go outside and into real life, I don't see anybody really panicking about this in general life. Obviously, the situation is different in hospitals, I know that.

But so many people are getting this. Half of my extending family are isolating - they're all fine. Loads of my mates have had to isolate. You just do it and get on with it.

This is the current big disconnect. Last Christmas, people maybe knew someone, who knew someone, who got Covid. This year, loads have got first hand experience of it, via the milder Omicron, and no-one is panicking or freaking out about it.

My opinion is now much more in the ‘let’s get on with it’ camp, as it feels like we’re much closer to an endemic, milder, seasonal virus, which we’ll just have to live with, and the government approach seems to be very much along those lines.

The disconnect comes when hearing about how much pressure the NHS is under right now, in the main due to staff absences rather than Covid admissions. But whatever the reason for that pressure, that’s probably where government focus needs to be.

Yeah I agree mate. I don't think people are being irresponsible either, in the main. I see plenty of people wearing masks, plenty being more careful. Hospitality etc is always quieter this time of year so in a way that evens itself out. The big driver now is probably going to be schools if anything.

There's just not as much panic but the vast majority of people are sensible. That works both ways. Being sensible about trying to be safe, testing etc, but also being sensible about not panicking when you get this thing because it's not going to do any harm in the vast majority of cases, especially if you're vaccinated.

I do think the government are focusing on those staff absences but I do feel here that there's only one way to stop that right now, and that's reducing the isolation period further. I'm not saying that's what I would do, because 7 days seems a good middle ground, but I can't see another way that staff absences are reduced within the next 2-3 weeks.

Locking down, let's say next week just as an example plucked from the sky, would not have an immediate impact on staff absences for 2-3 weeks, because of how prevalent COVID is and the fact that I don't think you'd get many people abiding it as much as this time last year even. Not saying people would be having outrageous mixing parties, but I doubt many people would not go and see family or stuff like that.

All covids fault why the NHS is crippled tho innit mate, can't blame Boris for all this that's going on.....

What, you mean to tell me that the reason the NHS is overwhelmed isn’t because we’ve kept pubs, schools and restaurants open?? This doesn’t fall in line with what the BBC and Twitter have told me, I don’t like this new information.

I do agree. With this new variant you seem to know at least 3 or 4 people who have it at once and they all tend to be fine. For most people the main worry seems to be the isolation period now rather than the actual COVID.

Genuinely interested as to what it is about Covid that stops people from being able to fill in their tax returns? The online system is incredibly straightforward and takes no time at all.

I was going to say something about maybe not everyone is as computer savvy as you, but then roydo posted this and ruined my point

Yep. Puzzled me as well, but I guess HMRC have had staff issues etc etc. But like you say, the Gateway is dead easy anyrate.

*soz and love you much @roydo

Terrible people trying to blame staff sickness, all the data is showing huge increases in the over 60s being admitted to hospital. With yet Christmas and New year period to come into play. So its now staff sickness that puts people in hospital no depths some will go to protect the government narrative.

Not a question of trying to blame anyone (at least not from my part). But in the week up to Xmas there was something like 18,000 NHS staff off sick with Covid. That’s gonna cause a huge problem, irrespective of whether admissions go up or not. NHS warned us about this pre Xmas.

The right wing rags who today, were banging on about sickness rates from 2019 to try to undermine and discredit the NHS, are pretty despicable.

Off topic slightly but, we discussed on here the other day, where the line is drawn at misinformation.

So, I have no horse in this race at all, it was just rt'd onto my timeline. And if you look at the comments to that video, it's people saying they are reporting C-Span, a news network, for covering a news story.

Whether the person in the video is lying or not, this is a very dangerous game because that's what this type of thinking can create.

It'd be like us lot reporting BBC News for posting Benitez's pressers and the BS he spouts in them.

(On second thought, maybe we could all try that last bit)

I see Djokovic’s mom is now giving interviews making it sound like he’s a political prisoner being held at Guantanamo Bay as opposed to a guy who lied on his visa application and is being forced to stay in a hotel. Spare me.
The good thing from this is it's somehow drawn attention to Australia's treatment of refugees.

Let's not forget, this Aussie fed government is pretty much as right wing as they come without being completely fascist!

As if he took your post to mean you were blaming people being off!!
