yes, that is what "any statistician" generally means

also from that SAGE piece:

As the anti vaxxer loonies have shown you can find a statistician or doctor to support anything if you look hard enough. The government go off the SAGE information so that's the information that most people refer to. I shouldn't have said 'any' though.

Time will tell whether their death prediction is accurate. The ICU data from London suggests it's unlikely that we'll hit 600 per day again.

Must be galling that your work is so badly misunderstood.

Who’s to blame, would you say? Politicians, the SAGE head honchos, media? Bit of all 3?

The media definitely have caused some of the issue by mainly reporting on worst case scenarios. I do think the models for after the 'freedom' day reopening had an impact as the public seem to have lost trust since then.

Jesus Christ.

A lot of posturing again it’s probably more of a reflection of where England is to be honest with weak governance. England is certainly in a very difficult position, and people want to know how their livelihoods are going to be affected, and how the hospitals are actually doing and coping.

I feel what is actually needed is a proper update. Not a press leak or opinion pieces such as a Telegraph article and such like to be regurgitated, but a proper factual update from Government and Science advice as to where they are and what the estimated situation looks like now we have much more data. They must have an idea from the data what January is likely to look like.

It was mentioned before Christmas that the threshold for further restrictions was 400 hospitalisations a day in London be it rumour and not fact .NHS England have broken that and then some since the 27th. It's about time we had some proper information around all of this.
