Is it possible to have/had covid without testing positive on an LFT test ? Both my mrs and I were wiped out for 3 days after Boxing Day , headaches, high temperature and aching all over and coughing… both of us consistently test negative every day since despite feeling lousy … my daughter however has tested positive … I guess I’ve not had it but would be interested to find out

Yes. False negatives are common with LFTs.

Firstly, because they're not as sensitive as the PCR test so you may not have met the detectable viral load. Secondly, people just don't do them correctly so outside of lab conditions they're less effective.

False positives however are very rare, so your daughter will have had it if she tested positive.

Yeah I only ask really as we’ve been under the weather for 5 or 6 days now but my daughter only started feeling poorly 2 days ago band tested positive yesterday

Depends mate. The lateral flows will pick it up when you've got enough in your system to pass it on, for sure.

If you're fully vaccinated (and boosted) then the viral loads will be kept way down in your system, or should be in theory. Obviously could still enough for you to get ill, though.

That being said, there's also an awful cold going around that isn't COVID. I had it before Christmas and was worse than I was this week with Omicron. Similar symptoms, only difference with Omicron was the wave of fatigue I got earlier in the week, which is pretty unique for COVID. Like a wave of fatigue/nausea that seems to travel through your body - have you have anything like that?

For reference, the cold I had pre-Xmas lasted a week, and I laid low completely for 4 days of that. Didn't do anything but go on walks and rest. Even had to have a half day off work which I never really do. Bad cough, really blocked nose and a sore throat.

This week, with Omicron, I've cycled every day (in the garage), worked out a bit around that, worked 4 9-hour shifts and bar Tuesday and Wednesday have been pretty much normal, despite testing positive the last three days. Any symptoms I had cleared up with lemsip or paracetamols. Bit of a blocked nose (wouldn't say runny), the main symptom for me as I said has been the fatigue/aches but they've lasted a very little amount of time.

Mate, I was fairly comatose for 3 days ??… today was the first time I’d been out for a walk since Boxing Day… the nausea and fatigue was a very real thing for that 3 day period , I’m still not 100% recovered to be honest … but I honestly don’t think I’ve had covid funnily enough

I’ve already had covid previously mate so that’s probably why I’ve felt relatively fine. But the cold I had before Xmas was nasty.

It’s the nausea and fatigue that’s the sell for me that it might be covid mate. That feeling where you can’t even feel like you can get up? It’s awful. But the evidence is that if you’re vaccinated it will keep the viral loads down and that’s why LFTs may not show? But it could well have just been a nasty bug! So hard to tell. Hope you feel better soon!

I remember when some people in here liked to insist it was just the English that were the problem lol

In all seriousness, it’s on Sturgeon. What did she think was going to happen? Why did she insist on introducing restrictions so early? It’s all based on case numbers and at this stage, with the vaccination rates, that’s just mad - because that does suggest there won’t ever be a way out

Just seen a tweet about a fan collapsing at the Spurs game yesterday. Comments full of tin hatters talking about how this never happened before the vaccine. Why are they so daft?
In fairness it didn't happen as often or wasn't reported as often, (I don't know which) only a few weeks ago 2 pl games were halted on the same day due to issues with a fan needing medical help.. that's 4 times this season.
