Fair point mate, but Omicron has been here since early Dec, the U.K. were posting 90k cases plus 10 days ago, up from an average of 40-50k at the height of winter Delta supremacy in Nov.

If the hospital figures are correct cumulatively in your data, now that Omicron is dominant at 93%,you’d expect to see hospital admissions fall of a cliff in decreases. I have my suspicions we won’t. Hopefully I’m wrong though!
The more people who have it the more incidental hospital admissions we'll see and as they aren't being reported as such we'll never know.
It's quite possible that the actual infections are 4,5 times the known infections so there would have to be a big number of incidental hospitalisations.

Probably much higher than that, I hear of loads with symptoms that can't get a test.

HSE staff cant even get a PCR at the moment. Hospital staff having to isolate waiting on a PCR to become available no wonder the hospitals are at breaking point.

While it's Christmas and all that its a monumental fck up to have reduced the testing capacity over Christmas when they knew what was coming.

Just for another perspective and I am no expert on the benefits of face coverings but I am currently in Italy, Naples to be exact, and the vast majority of people wear FFP2 masks even outside. Not sure whether it does any good but certainly makes you feel less exposed walking about etc.

Yep incidental hospitalisations muddy the waters a bit in my Toffs debate alright mate. I still don’t think they would account for the shortfall, but defo, wherever Covid is prevalent or confined you will see an outbreak, not sure it’s the smoking gun in terms of driving overall stats, but as you say because it’s not readily objectively out there, it’s open to speculation and curiosity.

What sort of prices are they over there? I noticed how expensive they are here in Boots the other day

Looking at the current case numbers in Italy it doesn't seem to be helping that much. Their daily cases are skyrocketing, will be similar to the UK soon.
