I think they did tbf, there was a massive push

But I mean unless it's your dream why would you have decided to become a nurse in the last year?
Maybe incentivise it so it becomes an attractive proposition?

Why would anybody want to work in public services these days? Police, Ambulance, Fire - all get treated like dirt by the general public

If the vaccines work but not against the new variant then we have double jabbed people essentially not vaccinated?

If the booster combats the new variant then how does it when the booster was available before the new variant came about?
Would it kill you to go and do at least a bit of research about the booster/vaccines in general before phrasing questions like this as issues?

And by research I mean type a few words into Google.

I could see one negative test as being a bit soon but surely successive days of testing negative should suffice?

Yeah well I agree there. When the booster roll out is complete, surely they should only be testing people in medical settings, or if they keep the vaccine/covid passes for events

Yeah I would have thought so. That's how a player clears themselves to come back and play in the NFL. 2 negative tests 24 hours apart. Not that I'm saying we should follow it just cause the NFL does it, but I know that's the system they use for vaccinated players.

I'm not being funny mate but all the money in the world wouldn't want to make me work in a hospital in a pandemic.

Plus, you have to go to nursing school etc, it's not like it's a short-term thing.

Did the government have any sort of recruitment drive whilst the sun was shining this year?

Might have been an idea

In fairness yes, but the pay for frontline needs to go up a lot and the pay for public sector bosses needs to be reduced.

There are some good reasons to work in public services, as well as the cons. The pension terms tend to be better than you get private sector. Holiday entitlement tends to be better etc. But we won't fill frontline positions until the pay is better. Public services in this country need reformed because they are top heavy and we need more frontline and less management. But I don't see the political will to do it.

yeah it is mate you're bang on, that if they're vaccinated they get to do that and they've pretty much kept a lid on cases throughout (when you compare that to the PL, for example), though obviously teams have had outbreaks - think the Browns had one last week.

There has to be something done, so actually looking at methods that can work within certain settings for certain people would be a good start. Even if, at first, that is for fully vaccinated healthcare workers. Immediate PCR, if positive, isolate only until you test negative twice in a 24-hour gap.

I bet you'd cut most isolation periods right down from 10 days to 5-7, and that could make a lot of difference.

They're at 90-95% every winter yeah, like pretty much every healthcare system in the world.

Obviously last year was nuts and I'm not saying 'oh it's not as bad as then so why does it matter' at all. I'm just putting the numbers out there that are available.

A huge, huge issue is the staff availability. That doesn't just suddenly stop being an issue if we're in lockdown.
But this is the point. If ‘normal’ is 90-95% capacity, it really doesn’t take much to overwhelm the NHS and that’s when it all gets a bit dangerous for people.

The issue is that we don’t have enough capacity in the first place. And nothing has been done about it.

Thanks for that advice mate!

Ive just done what you said and Google, the government and the news tell me we have a wonderful vaccine but they also tell me that we have almost 100,000 cases per day and are on the verge of a national lockdown?

So is this because of the new variant, the unvaccinated, or a combination of both?

Are you implying that the booster doesn’t work? You’re initial questions and this post seem to point to that, but again, surely a quick bit of research would teach you something?

Are you saying that every time you go out you get a Covid test? Really? Every time? Why not just get the vaccine?…much more cheaper and saves you the trouble of the nasal swabs.

When I go to an indoor event where there’s a large crowd yes I do. The majority of people at that event don’t though. Who is more likely to carry covid in that scenario?

Lateral flow test kits are free to pick up on the way out of my local Tesco as well.

Makes more sense knowing test kits are free. You can get tested for free here in the USA but you have to go to the pharmacy. But test kits to bring home are about $30 a pop. (At least where I live)
