so difficult because this Omicron variant is the exact symptoms of a cold and it isn't like you're definitely going to get worse - you probably will just have a cold.

Klopp has said it just now. Thiago doesn't have symptoms, but has tested positive. Henderson has symptoms (a cold) but has tested negative. So technically, Henderson would have been able to be play today. Just Liverpool for obvious reasons decided against that.
So there is basically zero faith in the testing system?

This may be a stupid question but Google gives me nothing and it's a wonder of mine.

If covid (a respiratory virus) stops affecting people with the lungs , so no cough or shortness of breath etc.

What is sending people into hospital? I know there is the rare side effects of it like blood clots.

But in a general speaking way, covid has always been a cough, even in vaccinated it's affected breathing , even if it's not been too serious. But this new variant isn't causing a cough and the other symptoms are mild.

So what is the symptom that leads to hospitalisation now?

In three quarters of hospital admissions - absolutely nothing to do with Covid

I'd be surprised if the ones in hospital with Omicron still weren't respiratory issues mate. Remember, even though it may be mild for the vast majority of folk, it could still be causing issues for others. I don't think the numbers are high currently are they though for hospitalisations for Omicron

That is not a stupid question but I don’t have the answer

That could be the case.

I ask the question genuinely because all you hear about is hospitalisations. This variant is going to cause thousands of admissions , potentially thousands of deaths but at the same time the vaccinated symptoms are mild and not mentioning cough for the most part.

So if the cough was a sign of respiratory issues before which led to icu and all the rest of it, what causes the huge increase if that is no longer the case?

Couple of bits I’ve seen, seem to indicate that Omicron multiplies more quickly than Delta in the bronchial tubes, rather than the lungs. So would suspect that it’s bronchitis type illness (although that’s a guess on my part).

Think a cough is still a symptom of Omicron, although not maybe the ‘calling card’ that it was with delta.
