Well, you know my opinion on the effectiveness of track and trace. No point going down that debate again.

We can't stop all death in this country unfortunately, but this is about hospital capacity. There is absolutely the possibility that this will not have the dramatic impact on hospitals that is being predicted, because the evidence from SA suggests it may not.

If a range of outcomes is not modelled, then I don't see how that is much benefit to policy makers.
It’s a global issue not a national one regarding pressure on the nhs despite the governmental rhetoric.

We’ve already been banned from France and Germany - this can’t continue.

I'm not too concerned with travel right now in the short term. I just want to keep the domestic economy open and not have the enormous impact of another lockdown.

When are we going to see a thorough overview of the societal impact caused by a lockdown?

I know what you’re opinion on it is, I just hoped that it would have changed in light of these eminently predictable events.

Totally agree with your stance in many ways, though I think case numbers are far too high.

However it’s become increasingly obvious to me that any arguments for living with this that you might put forward are going to be ignored.

The anti lockdown brigade has lost the war.

hundreds of people have been dying in the hospitals, streets and homes with this thing though?

And life has to go on!

We've survived world wars, pandemics, earthquakes, tsunami's yet the doomsday brigade want to change life as we know it forever because of a virus that is becoming less and less troublesome the more vaccines/anti viral medicine that is given to the general population.

Once you realise life/time is very precious and you could catch COVID touching a contaminated envelope from the postie and die the sooner you'll turn off 24/7 scaremongering TV and just go about your day as sensibly as possible.

Fantasy island my friend

That attitude of break the law is actually damaging your prospects of a free life down the road.

we've been banned from the Netherlands today, despite the Netherlands still being open to people coming in from France, where they have 1000s more in hospital than in the UK

But case numbers are not the measurement we should use

We all know case numbers will be high because it's highly transmissable

However, so far the evidence suggests it is no more serious than a common cold for the vast majority of people, and that rate is even better when the boosters and vaccines are added in

Should - maybe you are right

I’m dealing with realpolitik - a lot of things should happen but don’t

With that attitude life will be made ever more difficult for us.

And be Barred from every country world wide? No government here would allow that to happen I’m afraid
that being said what does locking down right now do to get us off any red lists? In the immediate future, it does nothing

My mate in Amsterdam now has to choose between his dad being alone for a second straight Xmas (his mum died a few years ago) or his girlfriend, who can't isolate when she gets back as she's a healthcare worker.

We should reciprocate by locking all countries out that lock us out as well

I believe that would likely reduce cases also

So a win/win

We are doing imo the most sensible solution to the travel issue which is 2-day PCR tests to release. Keep in mind that travellers also have to test 2 days before travel to the UK, so you are covering a four-day span there
