Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I'm not in favour of locking down again currently but would massively restrict any kind of social access to anything but the most basic services for the unvaccinated.

I'd also like to see an exact breakdown by age, gender, ethnic background, region for vaccine uptake so we know exactly who to brand as traitors to society.

We would probably be locking down even with close to 100% vaccinated. Look at Ireland with over 96% of their complete adult population.

I'm all for renaming myself Phil Neville and pointing at the unvaccinated.

In fact I'll be Donald Sutherland at the end of invasion of the body snatchers

Omircrom, literally a cold. How any of you mushrooms are still going along with this is absolutely unbelievable.

Thanks for the update Dr Potato with your in depth knowledge of Omicron

I can rest much easier this evening for that input and I'll be sure to send an email to all the scientists around the world to say "knock it on the head lads, Charlie Potato says there's nothing to worry about so put that micro biology set away and get yourselves down the pub"

If you had any qualifications to show your ability to determine how dangerous this varient is or isn't, I might say you had a point. But since you don't, I'll place my trust in people who know what they're talking about.

You're right about one thing. There's a lot of fear mongering in this thread, lads claiming we'll be locked down every year based on nothing but their own frustration
Last year people would have laughed at the idea we'd be talking about another lockdown the week before the next Christmas. Its not an unreasonable opinion or worry at all.

If people think we need a lockdown this year then seriously what will be different in 12 months? Covid disappearing would be great but its not happening.

I'm happy to have reasonable debate but just shouting fear mongering isn't really fair.

The problem is this new variant. We probably wouldn't be locking down for Delta as numbers have been consistent for a long time.

Tbh think the testing system is going to pack in before that, combined with people not being teated due to it being unavailable / not wanting to quarantine.

ONS surveillance report going to be very important to get a handle on the scale.

People want to test, the capacity is the problem. Our testing numbers are the highest they have ever been.

The positive percentage will be interesting true.

Maybe people gullible enough to fall for the whole ‘freedom day’ thing. It’s always been the case that a new variant could throw a spanner into the works at any time.

It’s also not outside the realms of possibility that vaccination will have moved on by next year to combat more strains, or that a less significant strain becomes the dominant strain, or that we have to do it all over again until either of those are the case.
