Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

So many people sick and away from work is bound to be dangerous especially when it incudes the carers and emergency services.
Makes it difficult to believe that thousands of people are reportedly marching in London, protesting against the anti Covid measures.
what is it with these people.

they are morons, people who are historically dumb

It's a heuristic, of course, but Ferguson was saying on the radio this morning that it's quite probable that around 3x as many cases exist as those confirmed by tests as well.
oh yeah 100% mate - the good thing in that sense is that hospitalisation growth isn't going with those (yet).

Sorry by anecdotal I’m talking from my own perspective and from conversations with my family and friends down here.

The other thing I’ve noticed is the amount of people who have colds but have tested negative. I don’t really have too much faith in self administered tests. And now we are seeing data regarding delay between symptoms and testing positive I wonder if a few more might have it and not realise.
did you see the post that @LinekersLegs posted re the lateral flows?

And well, that's because let's face it, it's the middle of winter mate and people do get colds. Like not every cold is COVID. Issue obviously is that this particular strain is exactly the same as a cold...

Covid is now a "Major Incident" in London today. 26000 cases, but the massive issue isnt just that, its the number of emergency services staff with it. So the fire brigade have limited means to help with driving ambulances, for example.
Make use of the army for once and man the M25 no-one leaves without negative PCR test.

lollollol

I kid you not there is person round our way that users bloomers.

Ah yeah I am conscious of that too. I suppose it’s more the sheer volume of sick people all at once. Of my ‘inner circle’ family of 12 people, 8 are showing symptoms, 0 have tested positive.

I should find out in the next few days if I have the variant or not.

Thursday had all the symptoms, headache, runny nose, scratchy throat and then sneezes (not sure if that is one).

Test didn't turn up until today but a couple of lemsips and I was sound after it and felt normal again ever since.

Probably just a cold and a dust allergy but a great example of how many tests will be done for common sicknes ailments

Whatever it is hope you feel better soon x

But she's kind of playing up a bit there too...

What about all the people who are catching COVID just going about their daily lives?
Catching the virus going about daily lives can’t be avoided though and holiday parties seem to be a significant driver of cases.

Wouldn’t you be saying the same thing in her shoes, suspect I would be somewhat resentful tbh.

I know mate and I agree. But it's hard to judge isn't it.

Like, they could be COVID, but they could be colds... and the symptoms are exactly the same. Maybe the best approach is for people to act like they have covid for a few days, see if they keep testing negative etc?

That's what I'm doing. I'm laying low for a few days in the hope I keep testing negative (I know I do the tests properly, I've done 3 PCRs and loads of LFs, know when they're done right etc) and that I get better (I'm already tons better than I was yesterday).

Again, I feel exactly the same as I have done when having had a cold in the past, so it's really really hard to tell. I can only go on what the tests say...

Yeah I don't think it's right that staff are being asked to curtail plans.

Then again, she's a doctor in a pandemic. Comes with the territory.

Btw, I have no issue with people being told to take measures when meeting up - like doing tests beforehand etc.

Well we'll see mate won't we...

Well if you could say that to fear-mongerers like Tim, that would be great. I know about as much as you lads do, but my guess is we'll be dealing with it better this time next year, just like we're dealing with it better now than we were this time last year. My guess is that global pandemics aren't simple things to deal with and it is a constantly evolving situation that most of us, if we were being honest, would have no clue how to deal with. That's just me

Few people on Europe/US really expected this sort of level though - even doctors who helped out (and caught) Ebola are wiped out by the scale and length of the pandemic.

Tim isn't a fear-mongerer at all. He's just worried what it leads to, that's fine. You're not, also fine.

We could very well be shutting down entire nations now when there's high level of immunity rendering this latest variant not serious at all.

So some people think the overcaution is right, some people don't and some people are a bit on the fence.
