Going to be an 8pm closure for bars and restaurants in Ireland now. Government rejecting a lot of public heslth advice ( here we go again).

Latest modelling puts daily cases somewhere between 8k and 30k by NYD.

Highest daily rate ever recorded here is around 8k - probably higher but only so many can be tested per day.

Vaccine breakthrough with Omicron is about the same as Delta so thats not great to hear.

It’s to disincentive socialising to be honest, the time is irrlevent, basically public health and Goverment saying, you can, but don’t go out.

Think how it’s been handled has been very dispiriting for the country, even if there is a bit of logic behind it.

5pm makes sense for that I agree, 8pm doesn't- once your out on the lash you're out on the lash.

Trying to keep backbenchers happy by rejecting NPHET's recommendations - I heard one FF senator today (family own a string of pubs) calling on publicans to defy the government and open until midnight.

It's been a mess from the government from day one really. Constant mixed messaging, muddled information from ministers. Schools have been really badly let down.

Just get HEPA filters into classrooms and pubs/restaurants asap. It'll help. Same as antigen test are.

As far as I'm concerned 8pm closing time is basically closing the pubs, but without the pandemic payment for staff, I'd imigine it will be difficult for pub staff to claim a payment when pubs aren't officially closed. I already know of 1 pub that's not going to bother opening.

Think 5.00pm was a political kite mate, leaked to the media, blamed on public health, then the Goverment decide to increase on five but reduce from 12.00, to look like they are standing up to public health, but not abandoning all risk, all staged in my opinion mate. All leaks, kites and politicking.

It’s been a mixed bag over all, I’d not have any particular leaning, but I’d agree we started managing this very poorly after the coalition got in, they are just winging it, but a lot of things don’t make sense, opening up hospitality in Oct being the most stupid in my opinion. Winter was always going to be tricky, be like this now to March.

The schools have been a mess for a while, the real mismanagement has been in not acknowledging them as a problem, it’s been driving our wave, if we acknowledged they were a problem, we could have done more to mind the kids. Too little too late, a real annoyance for me are Niac, move at a glacial pace, we could and should have boosters started in Aug.

Yeah I’d imagine for some won’t be worth their while, that said many might have stock bought in for Xmas they need to shift. Might be different in City’s and big towns. To be honest think most people will just get the drinks in at home and bring people around their houses and do antigens, which is probably the intention behind public health decision.

5pm was on their letter to Donnelly - who was nowhere to be seen at the press conference again.

The boosters would've waned by now so we'd be scrambling for a 4th, and younger people were only having their second then

I imagine there's definitely some covid related public health plan...when a reopening finally happens there'll just be no pubs left, so nobody can get infected there

Got a letter today from a company called Recovery. When I was in hospital they asked if I'd take part in a trial for various drugs they were testing to aid Covid.

I agreed (obviously cos I was in a bit of a pickle lol ) and it was really interesting to see all the medications that were trialled.

My random trial what I got selected to test was Aspirin (commonly used to thin blood it says) but the results say they found it to not be effective as of June 2021.

During the trial they found 3 treatments to be effective (a steroid treatment, an antibody treatment & an anti inflammatory treatment) and they found 6 treatments to not be effective. They are still trialling 3 other treatments as well.

Just thought I'd post anyway, thought it was really interesting and gives a little insight into all the ways at the time they were testing things trying to make little breakthroughs to aid patients recovery and how they're still looking now for new ways to combat it.

There's a lot of clever people at work, sometimes we just don't get to see it and therefore we may not appreciate all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.

If 8pm doesn't make sense neither does 5pm. Where are the studies that prove that 3 hours make a difference? It's laughable.
