Surprised it's still below 100,000. 1.6m tests done yesterday which is quite a lot. I don't know why people are looking at the confirmed new variant numbers because they're miles off. It's much much higher than 3000 or whatever they are reporting.

That's an enormous amount of tests can I just say. That's like 2 and a half percent of the UK population??

Was the same the day before. It's been around 1.2-1.3m for a while. The demand for tests has gone up, assume it's probably a lot of people preparing for Christmas. There are probably a large amount of people using lateral flow tests who don't even log the result either, I sometimes don't remember to log negative results.

I can't be arsed running the numbers

But it's about a 500k increase in tests based on the average. But almost double the average positive tests off the back of that.

On the good news front those tests are still very effective

Going to be an 8pm closure for bars and restaurants in Ireland now. Government rejecting a lot of public heslth advice ( here we go again).

Latest modelling puts daily cases somewhere between 8k and 30k by NYD.

Highest daily rate ever recorded here is around 8k - probably higher but only so many can be tested per day.

Vaccine breakthrough with Omicron is about the same as Delta so thats not great to hear.

Hoping for further approval next week

Agree it would help with hesitancy, particularly in those who have yet to have even one shot.

Whether it would be available in UK/US anytime soon is more up in the air - tbh it would be good if it was primarily used for Covax as we’d get more equitable global levels of vaccination.
I'd pay privately if I could but I doubt I'll ever get the chance

To be fair 5pm or 8pm, realistically if either is needed they should be closed right? I guess people will then meet in homes, so no real good answers beyond banning that again

How are you still optimistic?
I doubt the type of vaccine changes any minds.
The new technology, developed too fast "reasons", were/are just convenient excuses

I also saw a video clip of commuters being interviewed this morning - A number of them were saying 'Yeah I can work from home but I prefer to come into the office so here I am'

Isn't that essentially illegal at the moment you Southern biffs?
I have deep suspicions of people who voluntarily commute to the office instead of working from home.
