I think a lot of the concern at least in the research/academic world revolves around the number and type of mutations Omicron has and what that could led to when it spreads/replicates especially as cold and flu viruses are circulating and folks have simultaneous infections.

People hear it's not "deadly" and let their guard down.

More spread/infections > more replication > more mutations > potential for a mutation that evades current vaccine and/or causes more severe disease/high fatality rate.

If it's as contagious as they believe you're not stopping people catching it with these measures. Possibly slowing it slightly but the majority will get this new variant eventually.

There are genuinely a few people I know who think "hopefully I won't catch this".

I have to bite my tongue to give them the bad news that unless they die of something else inside the next two years or so they are statistically all-but absolutely certain to catch COVID in the near future unless they go and live in a shack somewhere. Or they've already had it and didn't know.

You'd think everyone would 'get it' by now but loads honestly don't - they still think this is something to be 'beat'.

I thought pretty much everyone knew the zero COVID approach was over now. The vast majority will catch this variant, hopefully they'll be vaccinated and won't have bad issues.

On another note I've already seen various media outlets today reporting on plan C which is essentially a full lockdown. How long until SAGE are pushing for it?

Imagine thinking this shower have any ground to implement a lockdown and that anyone will actually take any notice of them.

Indeed... Factor in the NHS cannot factor in the added pressures waves of this virus brings..Yes more monies has been promised.. Simple fact it will.take years to get professional health staff on ward and functional.

We are way passed evidenced based facts and people will believe what they want to believe. It seems Turkeys will vote for Christmas or Thanks giving and do it repeatedly, you just can't educate ignorance as it's a choice for the many now.
