This government especially is especially unhealthy in that way - prominent RW hacks are very close friends (Wickham, Nelson, Stratton), or exes (Vine, Cole) or even partners (Wakefield) of the people making the decisions.

They should be disbarred from ever reporting on the people who they are hopelessly compromised on.

Yeah, I think journalists will always want to maintain cordial relationships with the sources of stories, whether they agree or disagree with that source ideologically, as if they scupper that professional relationship, they get left out in the cold, and are then pretty useless.

But agree, where there’s personal or financial relationships, this is where conflicts of interest can become very problematic.

Herd immunity will have a similar effect hence why the previous ones evolved.

But vaccinations get you there quicker because as the virus has to ‘keep up’ with each iteration of the vaccine.

Think herd immunity to a variant rather than the virus. You can either get boosters each year or potentially catch each iteration to become immune.

It’s why boosters se important.

To be honest, it’s made me realise that the real issue through all of this has been messaging. Maybe it’s just me but the way it was explained this morning made vaccinations and boosters make even more sense. It’s a roadmap to get out of this. Which I think nearly everyone will want.
Survival of fittest crowd with their anti vaccine agenda along side and perversely vaccine greed holding us all back from getting back to pre pandemic life.

Indeed, but I think perhaps the best evidence of how wrong the relationship is generally would be the ostracism of Peter Oborne after he called attention to the conflicts some lobby hacks have (calling out Kuenssberg and Peston by name) during the 2019 election.

I mean we are talking about sources who (in those two cases) repeatedly make their hacks look like fools, but they are still relied on constantly.

The close links between media and politicians is extremely unhelpful. Given that leaks and inside sources are key in breaking stories first, it’s in journalists interests to have those close links in place. This is a much bigger problem than headline writing.

Not sure what you’re saying is not possible? The public being able to parse information properly?
Yep - the vast majority don't look into things anywhere close now what those of us who post on Internet forums do. I find it genuinely scary how uninformed some people are. And I think it's by design to make them easily manipulated- the school system doesn't teach us to do any sort of critical thinking nor about politics, finances etc.

Its why things that are genuinely terrifying like mandatory vaccination being talked about are so worrying to me - because it means someone somewhere with power has a vested interest in making it happen and that usually means it will happen once they've manipulated people in that direction using the media

When is he going to admit that multiple parties happened? It's disgraceful that they are still pretending that nothing happened.

It's not a coincidence - it's the establishment at work - more of a feature than a flaw of the system

The hospitalisations and deaths are so much lower than this time last year. Case numbers are not the important statistic no matter how often they are reported. There should be positivity right now with people looking forward to a normal holiday period, or at least some enjoyable time off work. I'm fed up with constant negativity being pushed towards us.

Was so depressing turning Bayern v Barcelona on last night and seeing an empty stadium with player’s voices echoing around it. I immediately turned it back over. Horrible that the people of Germany are still having to put up with this.

Saw same at the Ajax game. 18 points from 6 games in the CL and their fans weren't allowed to enjoy it.

And the actual science says that outdoors is extremely low risk. So it's all a total nonsense and makes you wonder what's going on.

Behind doors football isn't real football, and is total crap to watch.

I swear down I will never watch another behind closed doors football match ever again.
