Wearing face masks and maintaining social distance are familiar to many people around the world during the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Evidence suggests that these are effective ways to reduce the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, it is not clear how exactly the risk of infection is affected by wearing a mask during close personal encounters or by social distancing without a mask. Our results show that face masks significantly reduce the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to social distancing. We find a very low risk of infection when everyone wears a face mask, even if it doesn’t fit perfectly on the face.

PNAS?? FFS. Whoever let that Fly needs Sacking. What a Cock up.

Telling you, destroying this country.

As long as they are wearing their mask on the bus their all good.

Don’t worry about Dave who owns his own cafe who’s lost his house.
Hardly a balanced representation. Hundreds of thousands of lives have been saved. If you could experience the outcomes of your desired approach, you would run back to this miserable situation every time.

Hundreds of thousands of lives were saved by these measures prior to the vaccines. The calculus has changed now, IMO. This virus is never totally going away, so while it sounds callous, we do have to weigh up what an “acceptable” level of death is versus the consequences to the living whether it be adverse effects on mental health, loss of livelihoods, children missing out on proper education, etc.

Cringing at all the “socialists” who are ok with businesses being shut down and working class people’s livelihoods being destroyed (while billionaire CEO’s rake in record profits) because Boris said they have to.

You’re letting the government off the hook by equating loss of jobs purely to lockdown and restrictions.

Again, a competent government would’ve ensured this wasn’t the case and actually supported working class people through lockdown, but you can say that regardless of Covid and restrictions etc. they’re just a complete shambles.

Same can be said about mental health services and support, education, and other services. Lockdown has been an absolute disaster for these. Who has suffered? Working class people. Why? Because the government doesn’t care.

Restrictions can be in place without causing the amount of disruption they have.

These measures aren’t costing anybody their livelihoods, though.
