So the rumour is the plan b is being brought forward.

Why exactly? There still isn't any evidence of this new variant being more dangerous and every suggestion is bottom lined with 'but we don't know'. In fact news out of South Africa as early as yesterday is still talking about mild symptoms and unvaccinated admissions (given their low vaccinated number still).

I said it when the mask thing was announced last week. These regulations were always going to come in, it was always the plan for the winter. But only announcing them now is still defying the actual data we have , it's defying the data in the UK and doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Especially given the restrictions aren't covering places that involve mass gatherings indoors which is how you would spread a virus.

None of these restrictions as of right now make any sense nor is any of the variant data actually worse. They said we will know more in days, well they still aren't finding anything significant and all calls suggest we should allow this to be the dominant covid virus.

Well we are an island for a start. We’ve also got a unified health system, and much less suspicion of government than other parts of Europe (never mind the rest of the world).

Work at home orders reportedly being readied,.seems the irreversible is indeed reversible. Sorry that effects share holding in Costa or Pret that relies on work traffic for its profits.
Think we are cutting to the crux of the matter keyboard warriors who hold no responsibility and those in public office who know only too well where the responsibility will fall when said keyboard warriors loved one become death statistic because of this virus be that directly or indirectly.
Actions have consequences and prevention is better than cure and all that. Civilized society simply cannot allow indulgent behaviours of the few be negative for the many.

There are a ton of considerations in life of which covid is only one.

There hasn't been logic to the decisions from governments in many months. There is no evidence that this is the right move, and there is no evidence that this variant is more likely to lead to serious illness. This is about the normalising of winter restrictions because nothing will be different next winter or the one after. It's making me feel pretty down.

Looking like plan B is incoming all too predictable and could have been averted, nearing two years on nothing learnt. And announcing plan B the day after the "video" appeared is just laughable.

How are they going to police vaccine passports at the match? No chance they can check everyone, especially when a high percentage of people turn up with 10 minutes to go.

Unless this is a scheme to pre-discredit lockdown measures (which it might), I don’t think this is a dead cat. They’ve just probably realised what putting another 50k on to the already existing case numbers might result in.

If its really that bad they should be locking down properly. I don't want to see that but plan B is not going to reduce cases.

Basically social distancing, closing things and stopping people seeing others is the only way to reduce cases IF they need to do so.

Timing is very suspicious though

Moving a tighter set of restrictions forward by a week just to save your own skin and look "tough on covid" is cynicism to the Nth degree.
