Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I had to download the Northern ireland covid app last week to prove vaccination. It says it expires in 3 months time, which made me think that could be to do with boosters. I don't honestly know, but that was my original thought.
The ones on the NHS app expire too. It's nothing to with boosters. I had to download one to go to a comedy show in October and it only lasted a month. You can immediately download a new one.

Said above but I asked a philosophical question on the value of what we are told to do.

If restrictions are brought in simply to cover the tracks of the people who make them up and don't follow them, why should I or anyone else listen anymore? It clearly isn't about saving lives at this point , our government don't value them enough for that to be true.

So wearing masks , working at home , covid passports and all the rest of it. Are we being told to do this because it's the right thing to do or simply because the government want to distract us from their own actions?

There have been large parts of time during the pandemic where the rules had to be followed, are we now at the point where the rules have no value, both scientifically and politically?

It’s an interesting question around - should we follow rules that those who set them don’t.

Starmer has just made this very point that demonstrating leadership gives moral authority.

Thing is though, if people say - well the government says I should get a booster, or social distance, so I’m not gonna do it cos they break the rules themselves, that only ends up with people shooting themselves in the foot.

I thought about this after the Barnard Castle nonsense, where my first instinct was to say - F this. I’m not following any rule from now on. But on reflection, I’d have only ended up putting those vulnerable people around me at risk.

So the rumour is the plan b is being brought forward.

Why exactly? There still isn't any evidence of this new variant being more dangerous and every suggestion is bottom lined with 'but we don't know'. In fact news out of South Africa as early as yesterday is still talking about mild symptoms and unvaccinated admissions (given their low vaccinated number still).

I said it when the mask thing was announced last week. These regulations were always going to come in, it was always the plan for the winter. But only announcing them now is still defying the actual data we have , it's defying the data in the UK and doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Especially given the restrictions aren't covering places that involve mass gatherings indoors which is how you would spread a virus.

None of these restrictions as of right now make any sense nor is any of the variant data actually worse. They said we will know more in days, well they still aren't finding anything significant and all calls suggest we should allow this to be the dominant covid virus.
Why exactly? To get the media and people talking about something other than the Number 10 Christmas party and politicians joking about it..

Which is almost exactly what has happened in America once we got past the initial couple months of everyone trying to get the virus under control.

By and large, the British people seem to have played along pretty nicely with the rules up to this point, but I imagine there will widespread unrest if they really go through with this. Last week they asked everyone to wear a mask and be sensible while the science around the new variant was worked out and then they would reevaluate in three weeks, but said the whole time to forge ahead with Christmas as planned. Now, less than ten days have passed, they've been outed as completely flouting their own rules last winter, and are about to move the country back to the precipice of yet another lockdown. A lot of people aren't going to stand for that.

Not buying any of this at all now.
Come get jabbed and save your loved ones.
Jabs are working, but still wear your mask
Jabs only stop you getting seriously sick, don't stop you getting COVID and don't stop you passing it on.
New variant is getting through the protection of the jabs, so come get your next jab. Which is in no way set up to deal with this variant.
New variant is not as deadly but let's start putting in more restrictions.

It's getting tedious now. There is always going to be a variant, therefore jabs and boosters are always going to be behind.
At this point it's like trying to protect against a cold. You can't.
