But the details were in the Reuters article she linked that were quoting a public health physician. I would be utterly delighted if it was fake news or that it was misinterpreted mind.

“The outbreak took place at a Christmas party on Nov. 26 organised by renewable energy company Scatec , which has operations in South Africa where the variant was first detected.

"This party has been a super spreader event," Preben Aavitsland, a senior physician at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, told Reuters by email.

"Our working hypothesis is that at least half of the 120 participants were infected with the Omicron variant during the party. This makes this, for now, the largest Omicron outbreak outside South Africa."
That is insane levels infection.

Non essential places that have a higher chance of spread get shut first. It's really not that hard to understand
You do know at some point the vaccines have to be put to the test right? If 100% of people were vaccinated the virus would still be spreading, potentially at a high level if all you care about are case numbers.

Genuine question here, is there any length of time that could pass where you would turn around and say that it is no longer acceptable to restrict peoples lives? If this is still going on in the next few years (potentially 5 according to SAGE estimates) would you support it?

What level of hospitalisations and deaths are you prepared to accept, then?

We need an expansion of the health service. Unfortunately it does like covid will reduce life expectancy in the UK in the long run so we need to upgrade the system to cover the additional people.

The decision to massively reduce the number of hospital beds from 2000-2020 is starting to look very very stupid.

Imagine if the billions wasted on track and trace were ploughed into the healthcare system for nurses on 30k a year. Sorry that's ridiculous, this government knows what they are doing to 'save' us.

They should have made all medical related university courses free by now and they could have asked the universities to increase their capacities for these courses. Pretty easy wins which wouldn't really cost a lot.

About the same numbers you are willing to accept from lockdown and restrictions... between suicide, missed early diagnosis of cancers and a load of other reasons.. Oxfam has said that Covid restrictions will cause more deaths from starvation around the world than the virus will kill, due to the cost of food rising and charities not being able to collect the required amounts of money.. but hey who cares that will only be in the poorest countries at least the richer countries might be able to drag another few months of life out of 98 year old Nan.

How about, how long would you be prepared to accept restrictions for, a year, five years, forever ?

We were all told get doubled jabbed and you`ll be sorted, then it changed to you need to get triple jabbed and you`ll be sorted. Then lo and behold a new variant came along and they`re now talking about a load more restrictions again and possibly a fourth jab, to combat the new variant.

What happens when the next " new " variant comes along after this one, possibly a fifth jab and a load more restrictions and on and on it goes.

We can`t carry on living like this.

I was out with my crazy mate, who didn`t come out for the best part of 18mths and he`s talking about locking him and his family away again. This is what it`s doing to people.

But this is a false comparison. Because the comparison should be against the number of deaths *without* any restrictions whatsoever. Which would have been alot higher without the measures (including vaccines).

People are ignoring that bit when they are looking at opportunity cost and whether restrictions are worth it.

Without those lockdowns the NHS would have been destroyed completely. Which would have had an even bigger impact on primary care and onwards than lockdown.

The comparison isn’t the outcome of restrictions. It’s the outcome of no restrictions whatsoever.

Which would have been horrifying.

Pre vaccinations yes, we had to protect the NHS as there was no defence, we now have that to protect the vulnerable.
