Not as far as I know but cancer surgery cancellations because of Covid hospitalizations have sadly been seen before in the NHS
Covid-19: Vaccination plea after cancer surgeries cancelled https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-58009128

People can chose to get a vaccination and thereby stay out of the icu. Cancer patients don’t have that choice but still get pushed out…disgraceful…..

A lot of the worlds nations don't do much sequence tracking. The UK does about 40% of the worlds sequencing I believe. USA around 22% and Denmark 7%.
Seems if you discover a new variant you get punished for it as South Africa are finding out and the UK did this time last year.Even though the chances are it started somewhere else.
Probably better keep to keep stum and let someone else take the blame.

Still had to go to my weekly day in the office today and sit at a desk amongst lots of people from all over the country in close proximity to each other. No restrictions at all so how does this make the mask mandate sensible?.

I don’t support that approach, I’d prefer to scale resources to address issues, but there have been some heartbreaking decisions that the “if you are vaccinated why should you care that others aren’t” usually don’t cover.

Part and parcel of the issue of the internet is that this Twitter account is not reliable at all. Anyone could be saying that , some bloke In a council house who likes to pretend to be a surgeon. I remember a while ago the news took an account like this and put it into their news coverage, without any information to even verify that it was real.

Now this scenario is probably , and quite sadly true. He may well be a real surgeon as well. I have no doubt that this is the case all over the country and probably the world for a good while now , it's something that the media should be hammering home about the jab.

Overall it's for the best if you're open about it as it allows countries to prepare.

I do find it odd how a lot of the media are ignoring the doctors experiences of treating the variant in SA.

TBF the NHS should be able to say to those people that sorry, those beds are in use for those cancer patients.

They should , I fully agree.

Other patients should absolutely take priority over chosen not to vaccinate patients. I'd love it if the NHS took that policy because it's only their own fault if they catch it and get sick. It's not like it's not well known.

I can certainly see that, but at this stage it’s people’s idiocy putting themselves in that position - if it’s only them they are affecting then fine, but to further screw over people with issues they urgently need help with needs to be dealt with.

FWIW I felt the same way about the clowns who thought it was a good idea to travel from for example London (many ICU beds) to Gwynedd (few ICU beds) for their jollies during the first lockdown. If they’d fallen ill whilst up there they should have been the very last people in the queue for treatment.

British exceptionalism. Main reason we didn't lock down quickly enough in 2020 - needed to see it for ourselves

Now hopefully we're doing the opposite this time and can admit that if it becomes clear all is fine

Is the NHS booster appt booking system just not changed from 6 to 3 mths yet?

I'm over 40 and had my 2nd jab in July so was hoping to book a booster for the good of the nation.

Anyone else managing to book? The only way you can book is if you are immunocompromised as far as I can see.
If I understand this (notes from the UK press conference today) the app might not be updated for a while so suggest you try the same approach @Bruce Wayne did to get his booster.

So. Went to Tesco this afternoon. Mask wearers were in a very tiny minority. People just walking past security saying exempt. Them into a home bargains. Nobody I mean nobody with a mask in, not even staff. Nobody questions.

Wonder if this is the tipping point for most, where they say nah. Will be interesting to see in a week or so, if it is the Same.
