The demographics of the cases are important (S Africa is a comparatively young country and so far most of the cases seem to be in the young so things could change as it gets into older groups) but this is encouraging initial data for vaccine effectiveness.

This can’t be right because vaccines are completely ineffective.

TBF (and I say this as a supporter of free healthcare for all) there does need to be some consequence for being unvaccinated by choice, even if it’s just an acceptance that if / when there is one bed / ventilator / time slot for an operation or whatever and two patients who need that (one vaccinated vs one unvaccinated) then it’s the one who has actually tried to help protect themselves and others that should get it.

I don’t back mandatory vaccination or anything like that, but people should have to live with the consequences of their decisions. I’d also strongly support people who suffered because they listened to disinformation being able to sue those who’ve spread it.
I don’t support that approach, I’d prefer to scale resources to address issues, but there have been some heartbreaking decisions that the “if you are vaccinated why should you care that others aren’t” usually don’t cover.

If its young people it doesn't really give us much information about the vaccines either way - even crudely looking at the numbers from last winter vs hospitalisation the vast vast majority of young people didn't go to hospital with it before any vaccines.

Last winter was Alpha though, things have changed a bit with Delta.

However agree we need more data and things could change as we get that but at least this initial data is better than the alternative of “we’re seeing both vaxed and unvaccinated in high numbers”.

Did he say what hospital this is so it can be checked?
Not as far as I know but cancer surgery cancellations because of Covid hospitalizations have sadly been seen before in the NHS

I appreciate the messages of all these tweets shared, but why does any tweet anti vax get shrugged off as tin hat/conspiracy yet any tweet supporting must be the gospel truth?
Dont believe any of these random sources either way tbh.
