Every previous pandemic in history has been resolved by treatments and vaccines. This one will be the same in the long run.its part of the answer, yes
The point is , what part of the current update on the new variant means potential lockdowns, cancelling nativities , fearing what could happen?People should have been concerned about those things the whole time, though. They were all problems that might happen.
When people collectively stick their heads in the sand and convince themselves there is an easy way out of a crisis, or end up thinking there is no crisis, they will panic when their beliefs are challenged by reality. This is (hopefully) going to be the defining crisis of many of our lifetimes - it always needed people to be educated about it, to understand what to and what not to do, and to be supported in getting through it. If you have that (and the second world war in the UK is a good example of this) they can plan and adjust their lives accordingly, and the state doesn't have to deal with panic or rage provoked when things turn out not to be as advertised.
Instead we've seen large sections of the media / commentariat and their politicians either behave like its all a storm in a teacup or like they are snake oil salespeople selling wonder-cures, and whatever side they've been on they have tried to grift it for their own advantage. Meanwhile the public have gone from unity to be divided, confused and will probably end up angry.
It seems to me that in the US, if everything hadn’t become so political and nearly everyone had gotten vaxxed, we would pretty much be back to normal now. A combination of herd immunity level vaccination, combined with most of our lives having more inherent social distance that European countries and not having a perpetually underfunded health care system that can be brought to the brink so easily would likely have seen us out of this IMO.TBF reading the pro-Government papers over here it would be possible to come away with the impression that vaccines would solve this. It was all carefully nuanced, but if people didn't recognize that they would think (as many do now) that jabs = normality.
I don't think there is an answer, is there? There are always going to be variants therefore it's highly unlikely there will be a preventative vaccine.Track and trace the answer then is it?
I completely agree. Others think test and trace with lockdowns is the answer which in the long run just results in economic collapse and other issues.I don't think there is an answer, is there? It's gonna be much like the flu, only a bit worse. Have your jab, and only get a little sick. Don't get your jab, and take your chances and hope you don't get a lot sick.
I don't think anyone would complain about that. But what we actually get is the government threatening lockdowns/restrictions and prominent TV shows polling about mandatory vaccinations for all agesI don't think there is an answer, is there? Thats still immunity though. They weren't stopped by your methods. No they weren’t. I do wish you’d stop making definite statements like this that are so easily disproved.
The vast majority of pandemics in history weren’t resolved by “treatments and vaccines”, they just burned through populations.
It’s a good thing the medieval people finally developed that vaccine for the Black Death. Otherwise it might have wiped out 1/3 of the planet’s population. No they weren’t. I do wish you’d stop making definite statements like this that are so easily disproved.

So not “vaccines and treatments”, then?
Also FWIW test and trace *has* helped to stop potential pandemics - SARS, MERS and Ebola for starters were all brought under control before they got to the level of pandemics, thankfully.

If only they had track and trace? That would have stopped it wouldn't it.
Isn’t the intervention that Milan used where we actually get the word “quarantine”?er - there were several examples of countries and cities protecting themselves against the main wave of the Black Death (Poland or Milan for example), none of which involved “vaccines and treatments”
