Just goes to show how quickly the country can be whipped into a frenzy and a level of worry and panic without any actual evidence to support such.

Within 3 days we have gone from everything is fine to people worried about lockdowns , worse versions of covid , vaccines not working, cancelling Christmas.

I know I keep saying this but another crazy baseless opinion has some value on the face of it based on what we are seeing. Even if the crazy opinion is just that.

Terrifying how easy it is to manipulate the masses.

I'm not sure really anybody is in a frenzy. Dropping the little one off at school. Didn't over hear a single mention.

I really think what the government is doing is pretty much nothing, other than doing something, anything, to look like it is doing something. When in fact they are doing naff all to stop the spread of anything. Masks in Tesco is not going to do anything to stop it.
Hell. I was watching the breakfast news and It was showing a booster vaccination centre. People turning up, having to take their mask off and put a new one on.
No hand sanitizer was used. So handling a mask which could have the virus on, and then popping on a new one, without any kind of hand hygiene.
It's all lip service. We won't go into lockdown.

I have a snakeky feeling what this is, and it will sound a little like a conspiracy theory but bear with me. The measures taken are aimed at keeping inflation down. Less people will go out shopping, less demand, no need for silly price rises. Ergo, interest rates don't need to rise as much. Wonder if Amazon have had a word?
Only half serious, but you could imagine it could be the case. Will be interesting to see what happens with inflation and rates over the next few months if the guidence stays the same, or increases slightly.

People should have been concerned about those things the whole time, though. They were all problems that might happen.

When people collectively stick their heads in the sand and convince themselves there is an easy way out of a crisis, or end up thinking there is no crisis, they will panic when their beliefs are challenged by reality. This is (hopefully) going to be the defining crisis of many of our lifetimes - it always needed people to be educated about it, to understand what to and what not to do, and to be supported in getting through it. If you have that (and the second world war in the UK is a good example of this) they can plan and adjust their lives accordingly, and the state doesn't have to deal with panic or rage provoked when things turn out not to be as advertised.

Instead we've seen large sections of the media / commentariat and their politicians either behave like its all a storm in a teacup or like they are snake oil salespeople selling wonder-cures, and whatever side they've been on they have tried to grift it for their own advantage. Meanwhile the public have gone from unity to be divided, confused and will probably end up angry.

It's pretty much happened with foreign travel. Who now really believes that's realistic in the new world?

And it's happening to me with festivals too - I look at the lineups coming out and don't get remotely excited because I'm not convinced they'll happen til I walk through the gates. Used to be my main passion, the thing to look forward to. I'm aware how insignificant it is now though, and am working on it being less important in my life

Uncertainty is the problem.

You’re far more optimistic about the global climate situation that me. Or maybe just old enough that you’ll get out before we all really start cooking here.

Absolutely mind-boggling that it’s the final day of November 2021 and some people STILL don’t understand that the vaccine was never advertised as stopping you from catching COVID, only being seriously ill or dying from it.

TBF reading the pro-Government papers over here it would be possible to come away with the impression that vaccines would solve this. It was all carefully nuanced, but if people didn't recognize that they would think (as many do now) that jabs = normality.

I remember Chris whitty outlining this in January.

But the absolutes used in the media since then to promote and protect the vaccine campaign (get it to save your family basically) heavily implies that it'll completely stop transmission to be fair.

Nuanced language was seen as anti vaxx sentiment for a while, it's a bit more realistic now but I can totally see how the moral campaign behind getting jabbed for young people would leave many feeling they were mis sold if they don't consume the information as much as we do on here

Track and trace the answer then is it?
