And yet if the UK was seriously going to be in danger of this 'new variant' then these flights would be grounded with immediate effect, but no the people within our government who will know more about this virus than anyone else will allow them to come to the UK. Doesn't that ring alarm bells to some people that this virus isn't as dangerous as what were getting told?

tbf mate, I wouldn't be trusting our government to shut down or lockdown anything in time. They've been proved time after time too slow to react instead of being pro-active.

Looks like they're banning all flights as of today from 6 countries so they obviously have some genuine concern over it so I'd say that's quite quick for them

They are predicting your “wave“ mate, I don’t think it’s unclever, nor without justification, Jan/Feb we’re horrible for Portugal last year and they have one of the lowest ICU provisions in the EU and lowest in Western Europe.

I know, just 21 months into this and that's the only answer they - or anyone else - has.

She doesn't have a legit medical reason though, she has a medical issue resulting from the vaccine. There is a massive difference there , if she was an anti vaxxer, she wouldn't have ended up in hospital , on daily medication and probably wouldn't have covid as she doesn't go many places since the pandemic started.

So what value is public information if you dismiss the parts that don't fit? That is actually quite a dangerous attitude to have , dismissing anything negative to suit a purpose rather than an open and honest viewpoint pointing out the benefits over the negatives.

Because it's not about telling people not to take it, it's about weighing up all options and having personal choice to take the risk , no matter how small it is. The fact that 50 million people have took the risk is fine but if someone has a bad experience and someone else chooses not to get it as a result, not from a Facebook post, then how can you justify telling them they are wrong?

Important not to get carried away. Most of the hyperbolic reporting is coming from one scientist on twitter using emotive words. Let's just see what impact this variant has in the real world... its characteristics could vary in tonnes of ways, which doesn't necessarily equal more dangerous.

I mean more for the new variant - I was also thinking the after Christmas mixing overloading of hospitals initially
