That's literally what's happening though?

The UK is still testing tons. People are still getting contacted if they're classed as a close contact. If you're unvaccinated you have to isolate and if you're vaccinated you have to go and get a PCR test.
I'm sorry, where are you living that these things aren't happening?

It absolutely isn’t happening - I mean, given that you yourself posted this yesterday:

“Said as much in the summer. The government gambled on people getting infected in the summer - and knew that most likely that would be younger people mixing - and getting that natural immunity in line with the vaccines.”

… it’s a bit mad to say what you’ve said there.

All we are doing is huge numbers of tests for the sake of it (hospitals, schools, workplaces) and very little actual targeting of particular clusters - indeed given that we’ve been at around 40k new cases a day for months now it’s probably impossible to do it. None of it will be effective at preventing a new risk variant from getting here, or spreading when it does.

One of the highest capacities in the world for testing.

Go to any PCR testing site and there are 20 or 30 staff members standing round. A huge sum has been spent on this. You could almost argue we have too much testing capacity.

What countries are effectively testing clusters? That isn't a thing anywhere since Delta.

Lots of them were; South Korea still is:

They are attempting to but spotting 1 or 2 clusters out of thousands of cases is pointless. Once it gets to a certain level of community spread you want to ensure positive people isolate that has to be the goal.

How does that correlate to test, track and trace not happening? There's no correlation?

My granddad just had it and his wife was immediately contacted - even though she was vaccinated - to go and get a PCR test. She was negative but isolated anyway to help look after him.

My cousin's now got it and her 2 kids and her husband have had to get tested too. Kids positive, husband negative. Anecdotal evidence but it's happening all over the country I'm sure.

Followed by:

“12 days and then the cases started to completely plummet off. Strangely enough this is a coincidence that is not being reported in mainstream media”

Totally irresponsible.
I might be wrong on this so apologies if so but isn’t ivermectin an antiviral? So it would be given to people that already have covid. If so wouldn’t the effect be seen on deaths and hospitalisations as opposed to cases? Even if it worked (which currently seems highly unlikely) it’s not a preventative treatment

I think it could be used as both but that's what needs to be trialled.

Might be something to do with viral loads etc?

The hospitalisations in Japan also went down IIRC from that vid.

Pretty sure he says he doesn’t have data for hospitalisations but either way, if cases are coming down then of course hospitalisations will.

But I don’t think you can attribute a fall in cases to an antiviral. That’s why I find this video odd and think it gives a bit of a worrying message. Even if it’s not the message he is intending to put out.

But if you look at the comments it’s full of people talking about buying ivermectin from India and how it’s a conspiracy that hospitals won’t administer it.

For me the focus of the video should have been that there has been a huge surge in vaccinations in Japan since May. Starting a video called “Miracle in Japan” with a graph and implying ivermectin has been a driver is very irresponsible.

There are lots of trials on ivermectin, over 80 according to the FDA

Including one by Oxford

Some are still ongoing but the ones I’ve seen, like the one @Neiler linked, have shown no benefit in its use.

Meaghan is an epidemiologist at UKHSA

Sorry, was deaths, my bad

Yeah i'm not saying I fully buy what he says, i just thought it was interesting. But looking at YouTube comments probably isn't the best way to gauge 'normal' behaviours, I'd say.

Agree on that last bit.

I do think any possible treatment should be being looked at.

There absolutely is a correlation; phoning a positive persons wife isn’t really effective tracing. Did the other people your grandad had been in contact with get identified, called and tested? Did your cousins contacts get identified, contacted and tested? Did that happen quickly enough to contain the spread in that case?
