Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

It isn’t the media and government putting out lies though, it’s statistical information.

We are reading about two hundred people dying a day after positive tests, or the NHS being at capacity because of thousands of COVID patients because that’s what has happened.

I just wish this focus on opposing those telling complete lies would extend to acknowledging that people who retweet Toby Young might also be fibbers.

Figures are clearly written in a way to provoke as much reaction as possible. Not really sure why you're trying to dispute that.

In fairness the media's job is to get clicks/sales so their tactics are hardly surprising.

That’s certainly an odd take - yes, the media do sensationalise and twist things but that didn’t read as such; it was an account of findings from an authoritative, on the record and verifiable source during a time when it is especially relevant.

That article is based on almost one week old statistics and the numbers have dropped quite a lot since. Arguably the headline is different to the content of the article, it should clearly state last week.

The past couple of weeks, when out running,I`ve started to come across people who are " jumping out of the way " again as I run towards them ( this doesn`t half wind me up ). This hasn`t happened for months and I`ve also started to notice a a fair few people, wearing masks outdoors again, in places like out of the way trails and paths.

This is is what the media does to some people, with it`s misrepresentation of facts.

That’s to read a whole load of things into the article that it doesn’t say though.

All it’s reporting is that between dates there was an increase in their data, and that it’s at the highest point they’ve seen in their data.

I mean, would you prefer they not report on it at all? Covid hasn't gone away and I've had some recent encounters with people in work whose lives may well have been ruined by it. Giving out about people getting out of your way while you run seems a bit mad, would you prefer they spear tackle you?

Article headline should state last weeks peak was a high point then.

I would prefer balanced and non sensationalist reporting, not screaming headlines designed to scare the life out of everyone.

I`ve still got reduced lung capacity from catching a it more than a year ago, I have to use an inhaler in the morning. My lad still can`t taste or smell certain things for over a year now. I know four people who`ve died from it and one of my bests mates partners came very close a couple of weeks ago, so I`m acutely aware of what it does to people and the impact it has on peoples lives.

If you where on a country path somewhere and someone jumped out of their skin as you approached them or pinched their nose as you passed them by, at a respectful distance, would you not find that odd and just a tad offensive ?

Maybe it`s just me being over sensitive ?

Unfortunately, same where I live. Old ladies turn their faces away as if I'm some kind of unwanted guest in the street.
