How is Christmas in real doubt? Numbers have been consistent for months with no massive rises. Deaths at worst are likely to be somewhere around 300 per day. I just can't see a lockdown happening based on the data available.

Expect much more of this on the run up to Christmas.

“ One week to save Christmas “

“ Lockdown now to save Christmas “

Some sections of the media have been at it for the best part of two years now.

The result is that, they’ve cried wolf with their doom laden, “ we’re all going to die “ headlines, that many times, that people simply stop believing anything they say

I think this one is more to enable them to use the "Boris Saves Xmas" headlines.

They won't lock down for Christmas. They can't be that stupid.

Indeed they won't lock down again full stop, because - again - they can't be that stupid.

Isn't that a bit of a backtrack offering a testing option?
Not really. The lawyers at Justice surely indicated that the administration is far more likely to win in court if they offer an out, especially since there are those that cannot be vaccinated for health reasons. The testing gets expensive fast, so discrimination is likely. This puts the government in a position to hang that on employers, rather than have that court fight themselves.

Even this rule including testing as an alternative is going to get challenged a lot,
Yes, this will get challenged immediately and fast-tracked up to the circuit level so that the Supreme Court can decide whether or not they want to take it ASAP.

This one is interesting. I can conceive of a weird coalition like this - Thomas is in the majority to strike and Roberts is not, so Thomas assigns. Alito or Thomas writes an originalist opinion saying that the president doesn't have this kind of public health power under Article II. Maybe they weigh in on congressional power over the issue under the interstate commerce clause, and maybe they don't. The three liberal justices write a concurrence or set of concurrences indicating that they agree with the decision to strike but absolutely disagree with the reasoning (arguing that any rule has to have provisions for those that cannot be vaccinated) and the other four justices more or less indicate what will pass muster in a dissent or dissents.

Another world we could be living in is one where there's enough support on the Court for the government's right to strip facilities of their right to accept Medicare/Medicaid for patient safety reasons, but not for an employer vaccine mandate at the federal level.

I’ve come to a decision that going forth I won’t be providing details on the COVID figures anymore, I’ve been posting them for over a year now and to be very honest, it’s gotten to be a drag trying to get them, note them down and post them up on here and, as I’ll be going straight into the start of the Christmas rush in work, I won’t have much time to keep on top of things

I appreciate anyone who’s taken the time to read my reports as that was my main reason for doing them, to keep others informed

I very much admire your commitment to that cause over the past 18 months. Godspeed bro.

Between the media and the government they haven’t got an ounce of truth in them, I stopped listening to them about a year ago on this matter. Absolute scum

A gene that doubles the risk of respiratory failure caused by COVID-19 has been identified by scientists at Oxford University. They found that a "relatively unstudied gene called LZTFL1" appears to stop cells in the airways and lungs from responding to the virus properly, potentially leading to respiratory failure and death.

Sixty percent of people with South Asian ancestry carry the "high-risk genetic signal", partly explaining the excess deaths seen in some UK communities, researchers said.It is found in about 15% of those with European ancestry, while for people of Afro-Caribbean ancestry, it is 2%.

Crucially, those carrying it respond normally to vaccines because it does not affect the immune system. Professor James Davies, who co-led the study, said the increased risk "should be cancelled out" by immunisation.
