Who would have guessed that a “convivial, fraternal spirit” might not be an effective mitigation against an airborne virus.

We ideally need mandatory third vaccination in order to remove masks. The numbers in the UK are looking ok for early November, if they're similar in December I doubt a mask mandate will be implemented.

This is nonsense tbh mate.

We were told get your 2 jabs and thats it now its a booster jab then what?

Do we need a 4th jab 6 months down the line then a 5th?

Whens the line drawn?

Quite a lot of evidence is about that the third dose makes a big difference to old people and gives them a few years of immunity. It's older people who are the main issue, 20-30 year olds don't need a third jab urgently.

I woukd say its very much hearsay at this stage mate its really difficult to tell when boosters are only starting to be rolled out.

I do agree over 50's should get a booster but I'll be annoyed if they keep dangling the carrot of freedom for the rest of us unless its actually needed.

I imagine we wont know until next year when its been 6-8 months since under 50's have received their double jab how we get on!

Delta threw a huge spanner in the works tbf with its significantly higher tranmission.

However not unusual to have to have booster jabs (Tetanus is recommended every ten years, flu annual etc) and those have been around for ages so there is more natural immunity to supplement the protection of vaccines.

Much stronger evidence than that

I just think the adverse side effects in younger people is too risky at present to be advocating boosters for under 40's mate.

They need to iron out the issues with Myocarditis before I would happily accept it every 6 months particularly being under 30 myself with a strong immune system that can potentially go into overdrive with one of these jabs!

Which is the group that case load is growing in most? Kids at school, young adults, parents catching it from kids or the elderly?

All around the active community mate, young adults 25 -44 is the highest prevalence 0-14 next I’d put down to vaccination, followed by 45 -64. Biggest growth trend is from 19-24s.

Id conclude, it’s a result of increased socialisation due to loosening restrictions, moving indoors, people just forgetting about very basic mitigation or not adhering guidance.

If you are worried about myocarditis then vaccination is by far the safest protection.

Also this point was made during today’s discussion on vaccines for 5-12 age group

My skepticism on boosters for under 40s would be more based on the impact on global supply of vaccines for those countries that haven’t even vaccinated their elderly/frontline workers than based on safety issues.

I did see this in the Guardian though Legs:

"Healthy boys may be more likely to be admitted to hospital with a rare side-effect of the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine that causes inflammation of the heart than with Covid itself, US researchers claim.
Their analysis of medical data suggests that boys aged 12 to 15, with no underlying medical conditions, are four to six times more likely to be diagnosed with vaccine-related myocarditis than ending up in hospital with Covid over a four-month period."

I just think in the battle against the anti vaxxers propaganda we need to be careful not to bury our heads in the sand somewhat to these rare side effects which can be fatal.

Even one young lost life to a vaccine for an illness they are very unlikely to get seriously ill from is a tragedy and the scientist's for me personally need to be researching into the dosages / possible mixing of jabs etc to see if they can further limit these side effects.

End of the day we all have to do what we thinks right by our own health.

For me im fit, under 30, no health conditions and double jabbed so convincing me to get an annual booster shot is different to a 65 year old female with Diabetes especially when the risk of harmful side effects of the jab is more for my age group / gender than said 65 yr old.

Since iirc you first found out about the myocarditis risk post vaccination from my initial posts about it here in this thread many months ago I don’t think I can be fairly accused of burying my head in the sand about any risks!

I have repeatedly tried to present the most up to date data known about them, as I did above from today’s panel that recommended the use of the Pfizer vaccine in the 5-12 age group as the panel unanimously felt the risks were outweighed by those presented by Covid.

I agree the risk calculation for you would be different that the other case you gave, although in your shoes I wouldn’t hesitate especially as it isn’t just a decision on your own personal health. However I also don’t think you are likely to be offered a booster anytime soon so the point is probably moot.

I didnt mean you were burying your head in the sand Legs so apologises if my comment came across that way - I dont watch the news much so you're my main source of info on Covid tbh! lol

I imagine long term the UK Government will try push it once immunity starts to wane but hopefully they can build on reducing the risks/side effects to make it more attractive for those under 40 to go out and get one!

I don’t know if anyone else has experience of this but my Dad (who is 70 in two weeks) went for a medical this week. They tested his antibodies as part of it and they are incredibly high. He is double vaxxed but also caught covid in July in the UK so almost certainly the Delta Variant. His doctor told him he should hold off having the booster for 6 months as he doesn’t need one now. I’m very happy to trust his doctor and will read up on the advice myself but just wondering if anyone else has had similar?
