I don’t know if anyone else has experience of this but my Dad (who is 70 in two weeks) went for a medical this week. They tested his antibodies as part of it and they are incredibly high. He is double vaxxed but also caught covid in July in the UK so almost certainly the Delta Variant. His doctor told him he should hold off having the booster for 6 months as he doesn’t need one now. I’m very happy to trust his doctor and will read up on the advice myself but just wondering if anyone else has had similar?
Haven’t seen any discussions about that whilst browsing US info tbh.

Great news that your Dad has high antibodies though!

Yeah I’m very happy about that news. He luckily doesn’t have any underlying health issues either. But I was a bit surprised by the advice so just interested in whether other people have had similar experiences. Maybe @RAFUH or @DrEFC might have knowledge of this

The FDA does not recommend checking antibody levels to determine immunity.
At this point we don’t know what level of antibodies is needed to prevent infection…the correlate of protection.

We (US) give boosters as soon as an infection resolves.

And I’ll point out that he caught COVID after a double jab already so…..

Good news for your dad.

Would his antibody count be high because of the vaccine or because he's had Covid.
Has there been any research done about antibodies with people who have had Covid 3 months ago or their second jab 3 months ago for them to compare?

Person A had Covid 3 months ago: Whats their antibody count?
Person B is fully vaccinated 3 months ago: Whats their antibody count?

I'd guess @LinekersLegs is the lady to ask for this?

Tbf my knowledge of antibodies and their levels with regards to immunity is lacking for covid. I do know that sometimes when I test for antibodies for certain pregnancy relevant viruses, I ask for avidity (how well those antibodies fit their intended target) rather than actual numbers. Glad your old man is grand!

Government not following the science, well I never in all my days.

I'm sure as soon as this conference is over their plan B will come into place. Closely followed by plan C when it becomes clear that Plan B isn't enough to meet their goals of bringing cases down

There are various different opinions and different experts think differently on issues. The idea we should just follow the science forever is also a bit silly and extremely simplistic. There is a balance to be found between freedoms, general wellbeing, and health mitigations.

The wellbeing of society as a whole is more important than following the science. Like following the science meant schools closed for significant periods. I still don't believe that was beneficial to society.

I agree but that's not what's being put out in the media. A populist government can't push back against that all winter. I'm just saying their plan B won't make a big enough difference

Let's face it if SAGE were in control we'd be under lockdown pretty much all the time with similar rules to Australia.

I can't see the Tories adding additional rules when cases are dropping. If they start increasing again its definitely a real possibility but I doubt they will yet as the numbers over the past week have been ok.

Would we, though?

Lockdowns were brought in because of the failures of government policy, because there was no alternative left to avoid huge death tolls. If the scientists had actually been in charge, we’d probably have gone much more down the test / track / contain route.

We'd have spent more time in lockdown overall, I agree we'd also have less deaths. Test and trace doesn't work that well anyway with Delta.
