So more proof the jab works?

Why is the media making out like it doesn't then? It's the most baffling thing for me that the information we are served is based on theoretical situations still but the vaccine has proven to work, the booster as you share is proven to work . Either the vaccine works and the numbers won't shoot up killing thousands or it doesn't and we will have 1000s of deaths. You really wouldn't think it based on how it's communicated.

I don’t really look much at regular UK media so I’m not sure what they are communicating. Overall I think people in general have problems communicating nuance.

The vaccines work extremely well but they are act more like flame retardants than magic shields - there will be breakthrough infections (especially when the virus is widespread) and, particularly for the elderly/immune compromised, those infections can still land some in the hospital. Obviously significantly less than pre vaccine but less still isn’t none.

Add in some waning at 5 months after 2nd dose, and with the UK booster campaign currently falling behind in rollout, it is hard to predict how many of the most vulnerable groups will get a breakthrough infection.

Also despite generally high take up there are still a signifant number of unvaccinated/partially vaccinated people, about one in 10 are unvaccinated, so that leaves a segment vulnerable to a very efficient Delta variant in a population over 60 million. Thankfully those skew to the younger age groups who have generally lower risk of hospitalization but again low risk does not mean zero risk.

The fiasco in testing in the South West has not improved things either.

Fwiw I find this guy a very balanced follow

No hospital figures reported for today, last Sunday’s late revealed total was 51

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 72 deaths were announced today, down 63 on yesterday and up 15 on last Sunday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 135.57

No data for the 60 day cut off was reported for the 3rd day in a row, no late revealed total for yesterday either

It's what this clamour for 'Plan B' is about - mandatory mask wearing etc.

I don't think it'll make much difference, especially at this point in the pandemic when even if it were made mandatory people know it isn't enforced/wear it around their chin anyway.

If Wales has a mask mandate yet has even higher levels of COVID than England then, clearly, a mask mandate isn't doing anything.
With respect, it doesn’t really help having different rules in differing countries, when I’m in England I still wear a mask as it’s my personal choice but ( and I’m not having a pop here) a lot of non welsh people are coming into wales and not wearing them, I understand they argue that they don’t need to wear them when not in wales but it’s still a rule here.
