I thought the idea of masks was that if you wear one and have COVID, they help to protect others yet they aren't considered at all in contact tracing, only the distance between people, the time spent with people and any touch or face to face contact.

If its the distance between people that is a significant factor, then surely social distancing is a much more important measure but it causes so much disruption that people don't want to put up with it.

So given that most Welsh infections appear to be happening in a maskless environment, why would you use that to suggest mask wearing is pointless gesturing?

How long do I have to wear each mask for before changing to a new one?​

There is no set time, nor recommended number of masks you should use each day. It all depends on what you are doing.
However, if your mask gets dirty, wet or damaged, or if you touch the inside of it, then you should change to a new one (following the steps above).
When you take it off to eat or drink, you should dispose of the old mask, wash or sanitise your hands, and replace it with a new one once you have finished eating.

They're more careless too. False sense of security, less aware of space and what they're touching, more likely to go places they would have avoided before etc.

Hardly anyone does. I probably use a disposable mask for a couple of weeks (that might be 4 or 5 trips to the shops and a few trains). I doubt people are washing the reusable ones much either.

No I'm saying that both England and Wales don't mandate mask wearing in schools, so it's not a point of distinction - you have to look at what's being done differently.

If a mask mandate works, then Wales would have a lower infection rate than England consistently.

Its a bit depressing that 20 odd months into this thee is still discussion about whether masks are a good or not mate.

Right at the start of this, we had a case where I work. In conversations with PHE about contacts and isolating they categorically stated that wearing a mask made no difference to if someone would be considered a close contact.

If that's the message coming out from the authorities, it's not a surprise people question the point of wearing a mask.

But again, outside of perhaps social media I'm not sure anyone is advocating that a proper lock down can be avoided by "just" slipping a mask on. That seems to be a gross over-simplification that has been adopted only by those who oppose any kind of restrictions.

I wash mine every week. But to be honest I wear it to protect others rather than myself so on that basis some of it is less relevant.

I'd say a weekly wash is probably pretty standard but these articles suggest a change of mask every time you eat or touch your face. Nobody is going to be doing that, you'd need about 5 masks a day.

50,000 new cases today 40,000 yesterday with over 50 mil vaccinated and still a good few people wearing masks. I think people have a right to question what we’ve been told. Somethings not working.

Or like I’ve always assumed the numbers are BS
