Be honest how many are following these general rules? I know I’m not I have one hanging from indicator to use when I go in certain places!

How long do I have to wear each mask for before changing to a new one?

There is no set time, nor recommended number of masks you should use each day. It all depends on what you are doing.
However, if your mask gets dirty, wet or damaged, or if you touch the inside of it, then you should change to a new one (following the steps above).
When you take it off to eat or drink, you should dispose of the old mask, wash or sanitise your hands, and replace it with a new one once you have finished eating.
If this part is really necessary, it does make the rules in place at airports here in the US where you are supposed to remove your mask only to take a bite of food or sip of a drink and then immediately put the mask back on seem pointless. You’d need a dozen masks just to eat a sandwich.

Its a bit depressing that 20 odd months into this there is still discussion about whether masks are a good or not mate.

I think the concensus is if the vast majority of people (90%+) wear effective masks efficiently and follow all guidelines with them then they have some effect.

But back in the real world, people wear them as chin warmers. Just from a random stillframe on that tweet I quoted, 2 in 5 people are doing exactly that.

So it's not going to be doing much except give people a false sense of confidence.

I'm switching off from the news because it's not good for me.

The constant negativity and demands for restrictions or lockdown are getting ridiculous. It's not just about the virus, it's about people's overall wellbeing after almost 2 years of this. There is a balance to be struck and the experts and media are failing to grasp this imo. The government need to keep to their plans and allow us to keep moving towards normality.

Exactly, and that’s off the gov website.

Airline rules are the same over here, you can buy 2 or 3 cans of lager but you're meant to put the mask back on between drinks. There isn't an easy answer for the planes though in fairness. Banning food or drink would be tough on a long haul flight.

So 2 in 5 wearing them incorrectly versus nobody wearing them at all? Which is better?

If we introduce restrictions this winter then it will become normalised and they will be demanded every winter.

Indeed. After all, the NHS has been in 'crisis' every winter since.... Well, every year. So it's not hard to imagine a "protect our NHS" response that curtail individual liberty from now on, which should be an abhorrent thought but, amazingly, I think some have already become conditioned to the idea of it.

Risk is still reduced doing it that way than just not wearing one at all.

That wouldn’t be tough it would be in humane.
Anyway everyone at the airport are negative who are boarding a plane so they’re shouldn’t be an issue?

It wasn’t until the past couple weeks that I’ve really realized some of the effect the past two years has had on me. I’ve been pretty cautious throughout all this, and wasn’t until the past two weekends that I’d been in any sort of a crowd. Being in large groups of people has never bothered me, but I was pretty uncomfortable throughout the whole experience. After thinking about it though, it had nothing to do with any fear of COVID. What it actually was is that the past two years have conditioned my mind to think that I’m doing something wrong simply by being in close proximity to another person.

Oh well. I’m flying over in a couple weeks to go to a few Everton matches and hang out in London for a bit, so I’m sure I’ll get over it quickly enough.

It scares me how content lots of people are for the removal of personal liberties to become normalised. Exceptional times allowed for exceptional measures, but we have to move on.

This certainly isn’t true in the US. To my knowledge, the only requirements for testing are for AFTER arrival. All the pre-departure tests have been done away with.

I can confirm you tend to get over that quite quickly ;)

In the UK we can’t fly without a negative PCR which you need to check in
