Difficult to know what the right steps to take are, at this point. The vaccine rollout has clearly been successful in terms of reducing serious illness and death, but it appears the efficacy of virus prevention / transmission is waning, due in part to Delta variant, as well the effectiveness reducing over time.
Anecdotally, my mate and his family had Covid in the first wave - April 2020 ish, are double jabbed and are now all isolating with Covid again.
You’d assume some sort of measures around mask wearing and social distancing are likely to come back in to ‘stack’ several preventative steps on top of each in an effort to reduce transmission over the winter.

What I’m confused with like many others is why is this happening again? This isn’t all down to unvaccinated people at all when both can still pass it on, ok the less likely if for vaccinated.
If every person bar none in the uk was vaccinated we would still have new cases hospitalised and deaths.
I don’t believe we will ever go into lockdown again and we shouldn’t. 100 people dying a day is not great but neither is any death, people thinking we can get this to zero are living on another planet. It’s here to stay.

The government were going to introduce these vaccine passports. They were going to be in place. And then the media all kicked off, as did Labour, because apparently it wasn't right.
And yet, now it's all 'ooooo look what France are doing, why don't we do that?'

It’s happening because we’ve given up our embarrassingly bad attempts to do anything about this catastrophe.
We’ve failed to bring in containment quickly enough, so have decided not to be arsed. We’ve failed to locate where the problems actually are quickly enough, so we don’t do that either. Even the one success (vaccinations) has seen the government realise that this is going to have to be sustained for a long time and enforced if it’s going to work so now they CBA with that either.

Lockdowns work against the virus but destroy every other aspect of life so for me that’s a no
no.
IMO the vaccine is very weak and don’t do the job properly (that’s why we’re here today) and we still don’t know the long term effects of them.
It’s not getting much better than what it is now.
I agree as in to eradicate it it will be long long enforced nightmare, my opinion is life too short for that and quite frankly people won’t have it no more. The reason why people are getting vaccinated is to give them protection and to live a normal life when the reality is their only slightly protected and life isn’t as normal as they want it to be.
This is as good as it gets I’m afraid.

I think they mean the what comes next bit. If we implement Plan B now, which is supposed to be the magic bullet to keep us out of lockdown at the height of winter (though how anyone believed that is beyond me) because things are so bad it's needed, what does that say about what January will look like?
The only logical end of that road is a winter and spring just like last year, considering the worst is still 3 months away.
Honesty is needed now - vaccines will be every 6 months and we still may need measures every winter. Instead of this nudge and psychological nonsense; actually tell the truth about what the future looks like.

Well no; in fact what your calling for here is more lockdowns and more restrictions.
We do not live in normal times, and people need - for everyone’s benefit - need to adjust their lives accordingly.
That doesn’t need to be much (wearing masks when necessary, getting tested when ill, not going to work or out socialising when ill unless they’ve been cleared by a test) and the more people do the easy things the less likely it is that we’re all going to end up with more severe measures coming in.
Instead people are saying we’ve got to live with a hundred dead a day, as if that’s all it is going to be.
Agree fully on this bit, unfortunately we have a government that likes to treat the population like children. Although, its probably fair.

To be honest it is fair in some ways and smaller parts, but in terms of the bigger picture this constant building people up and tearing them down, leaving them confused and then devastated when something different happens from what they asserted mere weeks or even days before (Christmas is happening, cautious and irreversible roadmap etc) would be more like child abuse, or coercive behaviour in an adult relationship
Are you saying Boris Johnson et al have, um, being tampering with us? Figuratively speaking.
