Don't see that making much difference personally. Just let us get on with our lives.

I believe Scotland have started requiring this from this week so we'll be able to make a pretty direct comparison.

As far as I know, indoor masks have never been relaxed in Scotland and NI. They are certainly still required here in NI in supermarkets, trains/bus etc.

My daughters class had 8 out of 30 off with it...

I'd honestly change the whole school holiday system. I'd reduce the summer holidays to around 5 weeks and then the 3 weeks taken off that I'd give them a 2 week break during this October half term, 2 weeks over Christmas and 2 weeks in Feb.

Or something similar to the above, just to ensure that there's 3 sustained breaks over the winter period with less than usual mixing.

I know some schools have 2 weeks off coming up but my two kids schools only have 1 week. At least if cases were massively increasing (within kids) the two weeks would make sense as a circuit breaker.

There are alternatives, as has been pointed out ad infinitum. Tackle this early enough, and effectively enough, and you do not need national lockdowns, you don’t have the stress on the health system, and you don’t have the thousands dead.

Instead it is the “we’ve got to live with this crowd” who are busily herding us all back to where we started.

Nonsense, if 85% of the population are vaccinated and the vaccine worked properly then the 15% unvaccinated wouldn’t be able to put stress on the NHS as the majority of the 15% are kids who it really doesn’t hospitalise.

I believe they're still technically required here too, but with no enforcement it's become quite a limp requirement.

The uk are doing double the tests of france, france is huge with loads of isolated places and enjoys much better weather.

Each country has diff waves. In April france looked horrendous compared to us

Vaccine does work, most of those hospitalisations and deaths will be unvaccinated.

The vaccine works but it doesn’t offer 100% protection, especially to the elderly.

It has reduced deaths / hospitalisations but with the unvaccinated and the removal of measures we’ve found ourselves in a similar space as where we were last year. As I said then, there were alternatives to going through what we were about to go through then and there still is now.

However we’ll no doubt go through all the and arguments again on here whilst the government’s obviously doomed policy fails again, with all the people who claim to oppose lockdowns somehow supporting policies that make them much more likely to be brought in.

AZ was down to 10% effective with one strain, its why some countries declined to administer it. Factor in the many compromised immune systems that any modern society has within is populace. The effective figure is always an up to in reality, many people will be below that figure some unknowingly.
Just a shame something like "prevention is better than cure", has never been thought up before.
