I see some restrictions coming in Nov, probs masks and WFH advice
Sadly too late for many of the 10000 dead since July. Some simple measures and messaging from a functional government around masks and ventilation, would have saved many lives. This Government has yet again failed the people it supposedly represents, no getting away from the poor governance.
Had a pretty mild autumn thus far and anyone who works in health and Social Care is thankful... Set to change this weekend and get colder!

… and the rest

i don't think they're close hospitality etc although i have just seen today's death count
If we're about to trigger "plan B" now, imagine where we'll be in December and January. I just don't think vaccine passports for events (or at all until sense prevails and tests are required as well, which I know will anger many but it's the only true way to stop spread) and masks will be the magic bullet people seem to think they will unless they're mandated in private homes when meeting others as well. Work from home will help to an extent though, and I'm pretty baffled that this wasn't just continued in preparation for all this.

I don't see how we avoid much more severe restrictions to be honest.

If you were to make an optimistic case for the UK from here I guess it would be

a) Bulk of the cases are still in the under 20s. Between vaccinations and naturally acquired immunity from current infections (~10% ! teenagers) and previous exposures hopefully the number of kids left that Covid can still burn through presumably getting quite low. Add in half term and you’d hope their case numbers start a rapid drop off within the next couple of weeks and if that happened it would help overall transmission rates.

b) If you squint the worrying rise in % of cases in most vulnerable over 65s might be turning. Getting a move on with the booster shots (which articles such as this should prompt) would help alleviate the worst impacts on both to the NHS and fatalities

Seems to be a lot of cases in schools ( my 8 year old niece has just tested positive ), a couple of friends in my sons class (aged 13) have tested positive and quite a few in the year group 2 years above him have tested positive. That's just a small sample, but if that was happening a lot everywhere else l, that would certainly be a lot of cases covered by children/teenagers wouldn't it.

Hope your niece recovers quickly Mac x
