Aye but I'm off to a gig next week for the first time in 18 months and couldn't be happier. Can't wait to get back to a match etc.

Are they doing indoor events such as concerts in Portugal?
They only allowed clubs and dancing to start up again at the beginning of this month when they hit 85% of the population fully vaccinated.

They had set out the various relaxations to what were pretty severe restrictions, including late night and weekend bar closures (curfews) and the population vaccination % at which each relaxation would kick in.

The guy leading their vaccination programme is an ex admiral and now pretty much a hero out there.

I believe they also ensured that school kids were vaccinated before the autumn term started.

Portugal’s current daily positive testing numbers are in the low hundreds.

Enjoy the gig and stay safe.

Great stuff, UK had 80% vaccinated by early summer tbf did they not? Gotta get the boosters out there though absolutely.

Honestly, I'm not worrying about covid anymore. Why should I? I've been double jabbed, had the thing. Same thing for all my family. My dad has been much worse from having this bad cold that's gone around than he was when he had COVID, and he'll be getting his booster jab soon as will my mum. I'll get it if offered and will get the flu jab. Obviously testing when I need to too.

I don't mean to sound selfish there or having a go at you mate cause I'm absolutely not at all! Just people are back to being able to enjoy life again. COVID should be treated for what it is, a nasty, infectious illness that fortunately we have very effective vaccines for. Can't keep acting like everything has to be molly coddled though or we'd never do anything again.

I think that the UK are only at around 67% fully ( double) vaccinated now, compared to Portugal’s 87%.

We flew back tonight. The behavioural differences were apparent from our arrival at Faro airport.

Person in front of us at check in, “yeah, there’s my Personal Location Form”. Not happy to be told “That’s the one you completed to come to Portugal, you need another to re-enter the UK” Cue outrage, “Ffs this is ridiculous”.

On the plane the majority may as well have worn their face mask as a jock strap.

Even the Ryanair flight attendant making the “masks must be worn announcements” wore his natty black number in such a way that a goatee beard would have been vastly more efficient.

The best bit of the announcement was when he said “face coverings must be worn at all times unless eating or drinking. We sell an extensive range of snacks and alcoholic refreshments”

Cue mayhem as many went into a frenzy to order family packs of Maltesers, Crunchy Frog Pizza and Albanian rhubarb wine as justification to remain mask free all the way home. Nice one Mr O’Leary !

The guy sitting next to us spent £55 on these delicacies and adopted the chin strap masking style favoured by many.

I bet that the majority of those partaking in mask avoidance tactics on the flight fully conformed when in Portugal, as it was the norm.

Pretty sure all flights across europe have the same rule regarding eating and drinking. I don't know whether USA is different.

I found the flights mostly fine. A lot of people seem to think that the testing is a money making farce but thats another matter.

tbf, there's plenty of people in hospitality (working) who still wear masks in the places I've been going to recently - coffee shops/restaurants, as in whoever is managing them must be making them mandatory for staff.

But they really aren't the biggest factor. They do help mind but I'm not gonna wear a mask in a gig which is going to be the most packed space I've been in since March 2020.

I still wear my mask to go to the shops/anything medical, of course.
I'm far from anti-mask but I think for hospitality to get back on its feet then other measures are needed. Proof of vaccine should be mandatory everywhere as well as proper ventilation systems.

I'm not sure proof of vaccine is going to pass for people to go and get a coffee tbh

Given the whole vaccine passport failed to pass

Look, I was behind it because it's the best of a few very bad options, but looking at the dropping rates in efficacy, we do acknowledge that just having the vaccine isn't going to stop the spread. You having the vaccine ultimately doesn't, unlike wearing a mask, make anyone else safer unless they too have the vaccine. The point I suppose is if everyone in one place has the vaccine, then everyone can feel a bit safer but really the only people it would be protecting more are unvaccinated people.

It's very dangerous ground isn't it.

I think I have to show negative LF or vaccination status to go to this gig next week, but I'm not 100% sure yet. I'm double dosed, so it's fine.

But tbf, that's exactly what it's like all over the world mate.

I don't get why people can't wear a mask for a few hours and are so desperate not to.

At the same time, if everyone's vaccinated, then I get why people are sick of the restrictions. And they are, everywhere.

I wasn't talking about just going for a coffee tbf. I meant more things like gigs, crowded bars and things like that. Vaccination mandates (or proof of test/recent recovery) wouldn't completely stop the spread but would reduce it a lot.

The Philharmonic here ,The Stoller Hall in Manchester and Storyhouse in Chester check your status as soon as you walk through the door. The Phil have put a header on the website and email the ticket buyers to remind them. I went to The 100 Club in London and they didn’t check, that was a standing gig so more chance of mixing, especially when we all did the conga.
